Firelite Lodge

This is an older, kinda of retro motel that I think was built way back in 1960 (ish) for hosting folks attending the Winter Olympics. The building is well-kept and clean. Our room was quiet, with a fireplace (which we didn't use in the summer). It had a small kitchenette area and nice bathroom. The beds were moderately comfortable. Our only issue was we had a bit of trouble finding our room. When you pull in back to park, there are signs pointing to where various rooms are. The signs are kind of small. Our room number was not listed, so we were worried. It wasn't until we drove around the side alley that we saw the sign to our room; the entrance was up the stairs off that alley. So, we had to pull back out onto the main room, and then back into the motel parking lot to the parking in back. I'm glad it wasn't raining, or we would have gotten soaked going from where we had to park to where our room entrance was. We were disappointed that no breakfast was offered, is it seemed when we booked that breakfast was included. Only after deep research in the hotel website, did we discover they stopped this back in 2020. We did not use the pool, as it was chilly the evening we got there. Nor did we want to have to walk all the way around , through the parking lot and across the driveway to try the hot tub. The communication was very good regarding self check-in and how that worked. For a one night stay, it was good.

This is a remote check in hotel. They assign you a room and door code an hour before check in. There was a small pool, no pool towels, that needed cleaning from the bugs. The hot tub was tiny and across the parking lot from the pool. I didn’t like not having any staff to address the issues. The text messages were responding quickly when the internet went out but it still doesn’t replace having someone there.

Overall we had a pretty good stay. We really like the area. The beach is right across the street and nice and quiet. There are three main things needed to make a hotel good. Clean, safe, good bed. The first two delivered…the bed however was too firm. My German friends would love it, not me nor my hubby. The showers had endless hot water. The ice machine had lovely ice like Sonic. The pool was waaaay too warm. It was like swimming in a hot spring. The check in was fairly easy. It was rather odd never seeing anyone in the lobby. A lobby employee gives one a sense of safely. However when I needed towels, it was addressed right away. Still the hotel is a bargain for all that you get in exchange.
