We stayed here on a one night DBB break. Our room seemed like it had been recently refurbished although the wall facing the window was very grubby. The rest of the room was clean however. The en-suite had also been updated, with modern fittings and shower cubicle but lacked any shelves, so there was nowhere to put toilet bags etc. The lighting was also on a motion sensor, which unfortunately did not cover the shower cubicle, so showering was completed in the dark after the lighting timed out. The evening meal menu was quite limited, although on a par with many Scottish hotels in November. The starter I wanted was not available and nor was the dessert, and incredibly the kitchen had run out of chips, which obviously came out of a bag. The vegetables were also under-cooked and tasteless and the mashed potato stodgy. Portion sizes were generous, however. Breakfast was also patchy. the cooked breakfast (ordered the night before) was plentiful and tasty but the fresh fruit salad consisted of slices of melon and orange with the skin still attached, some grapes that had seen better days and a half a strawberry. Bit of an insult to be honest. The toaster was not set up properly and the toast just fell out underneath the machine onto a bare table as the chute had not been fitted. The carpet in the dining room was absolutely filthy and stained, which made you wonder about the cleanliness of other areas unseen by the public. A plus point was the friendliness of the staff, who were all helpful. We had a reasonable deal for our stay so our expectations weren't too high, but had we paid more, we would have been very disappointed.

A wee last minute dinner and overnight at the Tinto hotel. The hotel has been recently upgraded and very tastefully done. The decor and furnishings are in keeping with the area, with a truly Scottish theme. The grounds are lovely, with beautifully maintained gardens. Our room was very comfortable, clean and newly upgraded. Lovely quality bedding, plenty storage and a very nice bathroom. Food in the restaurant was very good, homemade and nicely presented. Staff were all very friendly. Will definitely return and would recommend.

The grounds are lovely as is the hotel and the breakfast Room and Function room both look like they have been recently refurbished, But on a hot day the internal temperature was unbearable as there was no A/C. We were there for a tribute night and even though you had to order your evening meal 4 days in advance the food was IMO very poor with Haggis bon bons served with cold potatoes, Mascarpone & pepper tart so over cooked the mascarpone was like shoe leather and the tart case uncuttable. Main was no better with a small portion of sausage & steak stew and a huge piece of what I think was puff pastry which was cold. Cheese cake had a grainy texture and cheese board was a poor selection, some got some blue cheese others did not, some got brie others did not.. A lot of the problems appeared to be under staffed with food getting cold waiting to be served. Staff were all wonderful, just not enough of them. Buffet Breakfast was very good and the food was like it had been cooked by a different chef to the one that cooked the very under impressive dinner the night before. But the main problem was the overwhelming heat and no A/C all over the hotel and rooms..

Like a residential home for Shearings Groups! Terrible meal choices, small portions, no bread rolls with dinner, breakfast not always ready on time. Sometimes treated like 2nd class citizens. Priority was given to paying guests who weren't part of a coach party.

The hotel is lovely. It's only 40 mins away form Edinburgh. We enjoyed the view on our way there. The room is lovely, very specious, cosy and clean. The outdoor space is also pretty and peaceful. The sweet potato soup is very delicious!!! And the bread is also very tasty. The food portion is BIG!

Coach trip! First impressions of the hotel were good and the first night dinner was acceptable. After that the food was sub standard and was treated like second class citizens if in the coach trip. The other guests were given a separate menu. No entertainment except for one night and the bar closed at 9.40. Very hit and miss, the staff were apologetic, it’s not their fault.
