📍 Grünhufer Bogen 18-20, Stralsund
★★★★ 7.9 (107 reviews)

"The hotel is a bit dated but still very clean and tidy. Breakfast was adequate. Service was courteous. It's a shame that the Hanseatic Cathedral is no longer included, but the prices are reasonable."

📍 Hafenstraße 12B, Stralsund

"The position is excellent (we had trouble tracking down the bus between the station and the Harbour, you want 3 or 6 from just up the road). Lovely view from our very large room, with large bathroom and enough space to position vanity bags (which is always fabulous). All round a good choice Two issues: the pillows were incredibly lumpy and hard. And the key has not only the room number but also the hotel clearly engraved on the keyring, so, of course, if the key is lost, anyone picking it up will know exactly where to look, should they be minded - a rookie mistake for a hotel to make."

Hotel Schweriner Hof

Hotel Schweriner Hof

📍 Neuer Markt 1, Stralsund
★★★ 8.3 (14 reviews)

"The hotel has been here for nearly 150 years, situated right on one of the two main squares in the old town of Stralsund. With a recalcitrant suitcase it's about 15 minute's walk up from the main railway station. The room we had (I think a sort of junior suite) had no view, but it had been carefully and recently fitted out (some of the other rooms were being refitted on the other side of the landing). There were a couple of small steps down into the room, and one into the bathroom (I think the steps may be because they'd fitted underfloor heating). The bed was effectively two conjoined single beds with separate duvets, but it was very comfortable, and we felt a degree of thought had gone into the design. The shower was the best I've seen in a hotel room - no chance of water going everywhere. One very small suggestion: a couple of curtain puller rods would help with the very tall windows. We had a bed and breakfast deal; we'd recommend it heartily. The breakfast selection was very good - cereal, yoghurt, ham, sausages, cheese, rolls and bread of course, but also salad and fish (this is the town that invented the Bismarck herring). A big pot of coffee was provided when we came in. There is a restaurant attached to the hotel, but it doesn't open every day: it serves very acceptable Italian food. There's also a sun terrace on the third floor (we didn't use it, but there's a good view across to the Marienkirche), and a vending machine for drinks (including quarter bottles of wine), snacks and sanitary needs. Staff were very helpful and polite (my German is limited, they made generous allowance for that). One warning is that the door is normally shut at 10pm, so they checked by email with us when we were arriving. There was no issue with us leaving at an early hour (we had a 7am train to catch), we asked and they made it easy for us. Thank you Tom and your colleagues. I think that it'd be a shorter stay next time (there's a lot to explore along the coast) but I'd be more than happy to go back."

"Across the street from the train station, this hotel was very convenient for us and offered good value for money! Comfortable beds in a big, high ceiled, pleasant and clean room. Breakfast was basic but good. Be aware that the downtown area is some distance away. We had bikes but otherwise you're in for a longer walk or a bus ride."

"Travelling back to Rostock after several nights on Ruegen island, we decided to take a look at Stralsund. With a car it seemed best to keep away from the limited and pricy parking near the centre, so we booked at the Hanseat, about 15-20 minutes from the main sights by foot. It was a good choice, a comfortable room with all mod cons including a big bed and a big screen! Check in and check out were handled efficiently. Luckily we took the ferry from Rostock just before the crossings were cancelled due to the severe October storm, which also resulted in some flooding in Stralsund. Once again the impact of global warming becomes evident. "

"My room did suffer from a bit of early morning noise from the side street, but it was a comfortable room of a good size. Meals were available, but I chose to dine out. The bed and bathroom were good. The lift was very handy, too. The desk staff spoke English and gave good local advice."

Hotel An den Bleichen ★★★
"The hotel is wonderful, located slightly outside the city center but reachable in about a 15-minute walk. The staff are discreet, kind, and very helpful. The rooms are spacious and spotlessly clean. The garden outside is fantastic. There are parking spaces available inside the property, but you can also easily park in front of the hotel where there is plenty of free space. Highly recommended."
