Clean room and good breakfast. Had dinner there and was surprised to see a tip automatically added. Being on the second floor was a challenge as there isn’t a lift.

Hotel is gorgeous however our room was tiny - definitely not a double room. Also had the disadvantage of the room being above what I think were two cooling fans - the noise meant for three terrible night’s sleep. I did bring this to the attention of a member of staff at breakfast but sadly no action was taken. Continental breakfast good - although if they run out of something be wary of asking if there is anymore - one member of staff replied to another guest ‘I’ll have to go and get some (yogurt) if you want it’ in a very put out and fairly abrupt manner. She didn’t go and get more. I probably wouldn’t stay here again but try one of other beautiful hotels instead.

This is our second time at The Stag and we love it. First time was January, beautiful time of year to visit but we wanted to try the summer and we weren’t disappointed. I booked a deluxe double room this time as we found the room we had first time around a little on the small side. We had room 4 which is in the town house next door and it was so much better. The room is beautifully decorated with a roll top bath in the room along with a separate shower room. Comfy bed and a sofa, my only grip would be that it needs a chest of drawers rather than just a hanging rail. Bathroom was lovely and clean although it did smell a little damp when we first arrived. There are fridges in the corridors so you can help yourself to bottled water and milk as and when. We ate there on our first night as we didn’t get the chance last time and the food was delicious, proper homemade pub grub! We had the pie for two and it really didn’t disappoint. We love the continental breakfast and there’s loads of choice so we’ve never ordered anything cooked. The hotel overlooks the town square and Stow is a great base for visiting the other towns and villages. Absolutely can’t fault the staff or the service, nothing is too much trouble and the next trip is already being planned.

The food was lovely and the staff were friendly and accommodating. I want to especially mention Daniela and Kiera who were working toredlessly to ensure that all of the customers were happy.

The staff were really friendly and helpful. The buffet breakfast was excellent - this was included in the ******* price. You could pay extra for a cooked breakfast if wanted but there was really no need. The location, for Stow on the Wold, couldn’t be bettered. Downstairs had some ‘rustic charm’ which was fine, just the right side of characterful. Unfortunately our room was not so great. It was small but I guess that’s the price we paid so I can’t really complain about that. But our view was of the fire escape, the curtain rail was falling off the wall, the TV cable and power box hanging down, a handle kept falling off the wardrobe door and the floorboards were so uneven and squeaky that it made us conscious how much noise we were making just walking in the room. But our main issue was the noise outside our room. When the people in the room next door went in or out their room (which they seemed to be doing all night) the door was so close that it sounded, and the vibrations felt, like they were coming in ours. When they talked outside our room it sounded like they were in our room talking to us. And just outside the room was a fire door which banged every time it closed, which was often. We could hear the cleaners vacuuming at 7am and the constant hum of a communal milk fridge just outside the door. Obviously I’ve no idea what the other rooms are like - maybe we were just unlucky. It was a shame because the other aspects of the hotel were good but we wouldn’t go back based on the state of our room (called Roe).

The food was excellent. The sirloin streak was perfectly cooked and had a wonderful char. The pepper sauce was really full of flavour too. The local cask ales were well kept, well poured and tasted great, and the wine selection was varied too. The price is a little higher but it is in line with the area. Definitely recommended. Great staff and service too.

Room a bit small but super charming. Staff great, a couple of douche bags in the bar in the evening but no fault of the establishment. Nice stay. Would definitely recommend and stay again. Good continental breakfast and they catered for all 8 of us to sit together.
