Our eclectic farm house is nestled in the driftless region of SW Wisconsin! From the relaxing front porch you can occasionally watch the Amish strolling on horse and buggy, catch a great sunset over the rolling hills, or stargaze at night. We are located directly on the cheese county ATV/Snowmobile route so motor sports enthusiast can access this amenity directly off the driveway. Please only use the toilet paper provided (single ply) and please DO NOT flush anything other than waste and toilet paper down the toilet. This will cause a backup. NOTE:Please note that the front porch is a three season porch and may not hold a comfortable temperature during the cold winter months. Also note, that the three season porch baseboards should be kept on medium heat and not high, otherwise the breaker may pop. Another quirk with our old farmhouse are the main floor bathroom pipes. They have a tendency to freeze during extended periods of below freezing weather. This might make the main level bathroom unusable for winter stays. In order to prevent freezing ( if operational during winter stays ), please leave faucets in the main floor bathroom on a slow drip. The White Oak Retreat is a newly constructed "shouse" type living space located 4 miles south of Shullsburg, WI. The property is located on a preferred ATV route and within 100 yards of the snowmobile trail with ample room for trailer parking. Located 10 minutes from Shullsburg WI, 20 minutes from Darlington, WI, 25 minutes from Galena, IL, and 30 minutes from Dubuque, IA the living space is all your own. The home on the property is lived in by the hosts, however the Retreat is all yours. We do have two cats and a friendly dog that might come say hello from time to time. The space can sleep up to 8 people with two bedrooms (one king, one queen), a King-size floor mattress (Cordaroy Bean Bag) and single futon on the loft, and a couch on the main level. If you have a larger group looking for a place to stay we do have a spot for camper hook up on the property as well. Message host for details and to arrange for camper parking for an additional fee.All appliances are new with washer/dryer, dishwasher, full size refrigerator, microwave and electric stove. A unique island with a 4' wide solid piece of live-edge white oak will be your favorite inside gathering spot for card games or just hanging out after a long day of fun in this beautiful area of Wisconsin and NW IL. When the weather is nice, open the all-glass overhead door to expand the living space to the outside patio. Enjoy a hot shower in our all-tile shower in the full bath on the main level. The loft has a 1/2 bath for those sleeping on the upper level.The space is air conditioned with a unit for the 18' tall living space and loft and smaller units in each bedroom each with their own temperature controls. The Retreat has in-floor heat, with supplemental heat from the wall units for those really cold nights. There are 5 ceiling fans, two on the loft, one in each bedroom and a large 8' diameter fan over the living area and kitchen.The main level floor is stained concrete contributing the rustic feel we hope you enjoy. Our goal was to make it feel like you're staying in a spacious cabin. We are located on a hidden bluff at the end of a dead end road in the driftless area of Southern Wisconsin near the popular tourist destination of New Glarus, America's Little Switzerland in Green County Wisconsin. The property is nestled in a stand of mature oak trees with rock cliffs, deer & turkeys grazing in the yard. It is a nature lovers dream!The 2600 square foot 3.5 bath log home sits on 40 acres. The home features four spacious bedrooms with plush beds, a large surround deck in the tree tops, high speed internet & access to private walking trails that wind through the woods complete with limestone cliffs and pollinator prairies. The interior of the home is lined with pine boards that give off a pleasant aroma and add to the character adding to the cabin feel but the home is well appointed and has all the features you will likely need. We are close to many communities like New Glarus, Dodgeville, Mineral Point, Mt Horeb where local festivals take place weekly throughout the spring, summer and fall. Take in a brewery tour or sample some fresh cheese at one of the many local cheese factories. Be sure to ask for fresh curds! There is easy access to Yellowstone Lake State Park and Wildlife Areas with a host of other possible recreational activities including hiking, cycling, fishing, canoeing, boating.
