"We popped in a couple of times for both food & drinks during our 5 day stay in Staithes.. We've been coming here for a few years now so know that we're going to be served good food in a good pub. If you like to watch sport they do cater for this , especially in the old fashioned 'tap room' on the right hand side as you walk in. If the sun is shining its a great 'sun trap' to sit out on the front for a bit of 'people watching', if you're lucky enough to get a seat."

"Only called the evening before and was delighted to find they had a vacancy...greeted by Delores, who pointed us to a private car park after unloading. Booked a meal in the pop up restaurant for that evening with local celebrity chef Lisa. Was not disappointed, first class food. Can I just say that all the ladies were absolutely brilliant, welcoming, friendly and lovely....would go back anytime, thanks ladies you were brilliant 👍👍👍"

The Captain Cook Inn ★★★
"Having stayed at the hotel on Saturday 4th, we came in from a lovely evening to lots of barking & yelping from a clearly very distressed dog that had been left alone in the next room. This went on for an hour before I went downstairs at 12 midnight to be told by Kaz behind the bar that she knew who’s dog it was & she would let them know. The owners did come upstairs & after a few raised voice & choice words the barking stopped. However the music in the bar continued until past 1am. This resulted in a very poor nights sleep. The next morning I went downstairs to a very aggressive Kaz who shouted at me & point blankly refused any apology or refund, the chef also came out & said the policy was to allow dogs to be left unattended in the room. Could not believe that this is actually acceptable. We can’t tell you what breakfast was like, even though we had paid for it as we walked out. Please avoid this hotel & maybe Kaz needs some training in customer service"

"What a wonderful little pub/ hotel in the heart of beautiful staithes. We arrived early afternoon to a lovely sunny day and were able to sit out at the sitting area at the front of the pub and have a nice cool beer before unpacking and exploring staithes and it’s lovely harbour. Our room was great over looking the cobbled streets of staithes with everything you could need for a two night stay. Including tea and coffee making facilities , bottles water and chocolates..We stayed for bed and breakfast and the breakfasts were huge and so good. We ate at the pub on both nights and I would highly recommend I had the fish and chips and the lasagna and my husband had surf and turf and steak pie all of which were delicious . The staff were friendly and efficient and ensured all our needs were met . Staithes is so pretty and peaceful and within a short drive to Whitby. We had arranged private parking at the top of the steep hill ( Glen vale) it was so well organised and perfectly placed right at the top of the hill. £20 for the 2 nights stay which was so worth the money as you could go out for the day and return to your allotted space as many times as you needed . I would highly recommend staying at the Royal George and will definitely be returning"

"Pleasant host and good cooked breakfast but a big part of a bed and breakfast is the BED. The twin beds felt hard and grid-like. On inspection we found that the one-sided IKEA mattresses had been turned upside down! The more comfortable but badly stained sleeping surfaces were face down. Turned over they were more comfortable, if off-putting. The sheet and duvet were spotless but the mattress covers needed a wash. The rest of the room was fine, just needs new mattresses. Sleeping comfort is too much to ask of most British B&Bs in our experience, whereas we have yet to find such blatant disregard for comfort abroad."
