We recently spent a wonderful 3 weeks in South Africa - our first trip. Our few days at Maputoland Guest House was one of the highlights. The hosts take a genuine and personal interest in their visitors and offered excellent local advice including “bathe don’t swim” on a beach known for rip tides. We really appreciated the town of St Lucia including at a distance hippo spotting in the evening. The local restaurants were great. iSiMangaliso Wetland park nearby was wonderful in all respects. The tours recommended to us (bird watching and a river trip) were with v small groups and ideal. The rooms and substantial breakfasts were 5*. It was good to mix with other guests but felt under no obligation. We do hope to make the opportunity to return. Here’s hoping. Thanks.

Fantastic stay at Maputaland Guest House. Our host Jörg communicated well before our arrival, was warm and welcoming when we arrived and very supportive with giving help when we had issues with our car hire company. Jörg also gave good advice on things to do in the area - we even saw a leopard where he suggested we might! - and made bookings for us for the hippo boat cruise. The staff were wonderful - they helped me learn some Zulu which I loved doing. The guest house is quiet and relaxing. The breakfast is excellent. And the swimming pool most welcome on a hot day. Highly recommend and will be back!

2nd time we stayd at Maputuland Guest House ,and yedt again they treat us as family , The time they spend chatting wiht us ,advice us even upgraded us to a better room now that is special.

The place is very cosy and feels like at home. The owners were very nice and organized tours for us. The breakfast in the garden very tasty.

We had a great welcome by host Jorg in his nice guesthouse (believe 5 rooms) in St. Lucia close to the center. The rooms were very clean and set in a beautiful garden with swimming pool and honesty bar. Extensive breakfast with everything one whises availabe. Yoghurt, fruit, several cheeses, processed meats, toast and eggs cooked and served by mom. We enjoyed our stay in Maputaland very much as well as the hippo crossing the street.
