I booked a trip to Jl bar ranch after reading several killer reviews online. I wanted to bring my avid hunter husband and are twin boys on a better than average spring break trip, not the Hawaii or skiing everyone else in CA does. When we arrived at your ranch we were taken away but the beauty of the grounds and the cool cabins. After settling headed to the pool where we went to get some drinks and that’s where it went south. The bar tender was not friendly. Later, I went to get a drink for myself(dirty martini, a different bartender was there. I tried to engage him in conversation and quickly realized that was not happening so I waited for my drink. My drink was sooo dirty I couldn’t drink it so I lightly made a joke it tasted like lake water so maybe he would help to fix it but just got a stare. So I said just pour the ice in it and then maybe I could drink it. As I returned to pool to sit with my twin boys. I noticed trash blowing around the pool as well as tons of empty glasses that had not been picked up. I asked my kids to help me pick up some of the trash so it didn’t go in pool as we left. Later, we headed to the beautiful dinner area. We sat and I scanned the wine list and headed to the bar to try the 2 cabs on the menu. I asked and he said what cabs and I said the ones on the menu. He said yeah, we don’t have those. I said well ok what do you, bothered as he was he turned and pulled them out and these. I did not want to upset him further to try so I got one and headed back to the table. On my way I saw the nice cured meats and cheeses. I then asked our server, how do I get cheese, is there a separate menu? She said thats a special order only from front desk. I was definitely bummed out but went back to table to wait for drink and food. Glass sat on bar for at least 15 minutes so I retrieved myself. The food was good but the service was sub par. At this point, I was pretty disappointed as I expected great service for a 5 star resort with such great reviews. It was not until my husband came to me and said I can’t not believe how bad the service is that I admitted it was. We felt like a major inconvenience to the staff and it felt terrible. I am not sure if this was off season or what but we decided that it was not worth our whole trip to be treated like this. Therefore, we left tues afternoon unfortunately. I went to the front desk and luckily talked to a very kind manager name Deanna. She was very apologetic and was glad that I came to her to explain why we were leaving. She did not charge us for our upcoming activities but said we had to pay for the remainder of our stay. I wrote a email to gm to not only to make him aware of our experience staff wise but in hopes he might refund the 2 remaining nights we did not stay and had to pay elsewhere. But had no luck and said it was non refundable.
