"Beautiful view, pleasant territory. Atmospheric hotel, but the rooms are very simple and obsolete. Thin curtains at night do not create darkness."

"The best time. I just got back from a trip with a group of friends and family and it could not have been better. The views, the dogs, the gardens, the accommodations and the staff were all terrific. Special shout out to Gabriel for being such a wonderful host. I can not wait to go back."

"Nice views of a gorgeous lake. People over 60 should consider physical limitations when going. No handrails on stairs ond all rooms are up "stairs' or paths. Our room did not have a chair, either inside or out on the porch, even though the room slept many people! Very nice staff, no amenities in rooms."

Hotel San Buenaventura de Atitlán ★★★
"This place is lovely. The grounds are beautifully landscaped and the pool and private beach are pretty and full of birds. It’s very tranquil and the staff are friendly and helpful. Breakfast is good also. They send you a lot of helpful information on WhatsApp when you check in, including numbers to summon tuk tuk drivers etc. The bar was not very lively or open late when we came, but the front desk attendant would still fetch us some beers if we wanted after hours."

Hotel la Riviera de Atitlán ★★★
"A skyscraper building (I am on the 14th floor) located by the lake. Not situated at walking distance to the village. Large room and medium bathroom size. Gorgeous room view over lake and volcano. Clean but not suggested for the allergic (carpet in the whole room, no anallergic bed covers). No air conditioning nor heating (!). Bed table far from bed. Stable internet connection. Fixed showerhead, rainfall. Available in the room: a complimentary bottle of water. Not available in the room: water kettle, coffee maschine, hairdryer, iron/iron board, bathrobe, slippers, safe. Power supply socket at bedside, adapter needed for EU travellers. Amenities: shampoo, soap bar. Fridge and TV English language channel available, both exceptional as the country standard does not include it. Very kind and helpful staff. No breakfast buffet, the vegetarian option is a fruit platter (see picture). My suggestion is order that only if you are vegan. The normal breakfast includes bread, jam, fruit and eggs."

Villa Santa Catarina ★★★
"The accommodation looks just like the pictures – the room was clean, and there were some nice shared spaces with options to play ping pong and billiards. However, there were a few downsides. The room didn’t have blackout curtains, so it got very bright as early as 5 AM. The front door was quite thin, and there was constant noise coming from a generator house next to the room. The staff were professional, but we didn’t feel the genuine friendliness we’ve experienced in other places. Breakfast was decent, though it felt a bit soulless and was relatively expensive for what it offered."

La Iguana Perdida ★★
"Where do I even begin?? This place is paradise. I traveled solo as a personal retreat, hoping to recharge and rebalance after a difficult year. The moment I arrived I knew I'd made the right decision. The staff are incredibly warm, friendly, and helpful. My Petit Bungalow #4 was perfect. It's very small but incredibly comfortable. The mattress is chef's kiss!! I loved the little porch and spent a good chunk of my time there. The staff was available via WhatsApp for any needs, including meal and wine requests. I was thrilled to discover their expansive onsite wine cellar! The cherry on top was the food. It was truly like dining in a high-end restaurant. Delicious, impeccable, good portions, and beautifully presented. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend La Fortuna! Now for some minor things to be aware of, to manage expectations: 1. The Petit Bungalows are indeed SMALL! Essentially they fit the bed and a small area for luggage. I enjoyed it (as a solo traveler) but it may be a tight fit for more than 2 people. 2. Be aware of the wood burning smell, which is consistent night and day. Since it's an eco lodge, the wood is burned for fuel and the sauna. I found it very strong the 2nd and 3rd nights. 3. The paths and cobblestones are very uneven and wet in the mornings due to sprinklers. Bring shoes that have excellent traction. 4. Bathrooms are aesthetically lovely and private but they're OUTSIDE the bungalows. This makes for a chilly late-night and early morning potty so bring something (like a robe) you can throw on. Overall, I really loved that La Fortuna was a perfect mix of rustic and luxurious. I applaud the owners and staff for what they've accomplished here and hope to return someday!"

Fuego Atitlan ★★★★
"Loved the beautiful hotel! The yurts were not cold at night at all. I had seen some reviews saying this so I packed extra warm clothes but didn’t need them. The views of sunrise from the yurt and the amazing breakfasts made by Angela were sublime! Some other people complained about the stairs after hiking Fuego but to be honest the stairs weren’t bad for someone in shape and we had a lot of luggage. The views from the top were spectacular. Also we loved Alice, the manager, she was kind, helpful, and very loving! This place is a true gem!"

Porta Hotel del Lago ★★★★
"It's a 3-hour bus ride from Antigua and a 4-hour bus ride to Guatemala Airport. This is the third best hotel near Lake Atitlán, right next to the lake. The rooms are clean, the service is excellent, and they agreed to a late check-out. Drinking water is available outside the room. A stroll through the shopping street takes about an hour. The lakeside restaurants all have scenic views, but business was slow in November due to low customer numbers. However, prices are slightly high, and the hotel's paid breakfast is monotonous and Western-style. Central American food might be uncomfortable for a Chinese stomach after a while. Buying an automatic voltage converter or a 110V small pot to cook hot water and noodles on the go is necessary; otherwise, food is expensive and not suitable for long-term stays. There's a beautiful garden hotel a 10-minute walk away, which is a great spot for photos and closer to the lake. Overall, I recommend this hotel."

"Beautiful gardens, great location overlooking the lake. But very bad WiFi and helicopter does land constantly at the hotel so can be noisy, also no gym facility. But decent pool and nice jacuzzi."
