Iberostar Selection Paraíso Maya Suites

We stayed at Iberostar Wave Paraíso Beach for one week in July 2025. The resort has a lot of potential, and many staff members went above and beyond to make the stay enjoyable. The entertainment team was fantastic—friendly, high-energy, and great at engaging guests. We especially want to recognize Tony and Gabriel, who brought incredible energy and always made us feel included. Chef Octavio was also a standout; he regularly came out to speak with diners to ensure everyone was satisfied with their meals. The bartenders were excellent, particularly Frank at the main pool bar, who was always friendly and professional. We also appreciated Monica from the shopping center, who was very kind and helpful during our visit. However, several areas need serious improvement: The reception staff were consistently rude and unhelpful, which unfortunately left a bad first and last impression. On our first day, my sister got lost without her phone and went to the reception for help. She asked to use a phone to contact us but was denied assistance. Thankfully, a kind pool staff member lent her his phone so she could reach the family. We were extremely disappointed that reception failed to help in what was clearly an urgent situation. We also received mixed and unclear information about currency exchange, which left us scrambling with limited options to exchange pesos during our stay. The dinner reservation system was frustrating. Although you can speak with the concierge directly, many of the restaurants were already fully booked. We were told to use the app instead, but it malfunctioned frequently, and we ended up missing out on several restaurants we were really looking forward to trying. There is a noticeable lack of activities for teenagers aged 13 to 17. While there's a kids' club for younger children and scheduled entertainment for adults, most adult activities are 18+, leaving teens with very little to do. On top of that, guests under 18 are not allowed to use the gym unless they pay for a personal trainer, which felt excessive—especially for older teens simply wanting to work out. Another thing we noticed was the shift in how guests are treated after check-out. Our check-out time was 12 p.m., but our shuttle to the airport wasn’t until 5 p.m., so we stayed on the resort during that five-hour waiting period. During this time, it was very noticeable that the level of service and hospitality declined, as if we were no longer considered “full” guests. This was disappointing and left a negative impression at the end of the trip. Overall, while the resort has some wonderful staff and a beautiful setting, these logistical issues, inconsistent service, and policies that negatively impact teens and checked-out guests significantly affected our experience. If management addresses these concerns—especially at the front desk, with the reservation system, and post-checkout guest treatment—this resort has the potential to be truly exceptional.

The facilities were well maintained. The large pool at Maya had a lot of activities. The staff was very responsive, especially the concierge, Raul. The food was good and had a lot of variety. There are choices for ordering off the menu or buffets. Our favorite was Marina in the Maya lobby. The best buffet was the Del Mar buffet for breakfast as you can watch the birds and fish while eating in the open air seating. The beach was great on our last day but the seasonal sorghum grass kept us from the beach the other days. However, between the wave pool, slides and lazy river we never lacked things to do. We took a taxi to “5th Avenue” and had a great evening of shopping. I also recommend booking snorkeling trip through Amstar and Cancun Adventures. Alex at the Maya lobby Amstar desk made a great recommendation and was true to his word..it was a great Catamaran trip. Loved the place. Very nice and clean and the kids loved it. Food was really good too. Greek place and la marina was our favorite for dinner. Didn’t get to try the Japanese place. And we had the best golf cart chauffeur Javier! He helped us get a reservation at the steakhouse when it was already full! Great guy was always checking on us!
