We had 2 stays as this hotel during the summer, with a short break in between whilst we went on safari and the hotel kindly stored our luggage during the safari. We had a family suite which is 2 large king bed rooms each with a fridge, desk, dressing table and bathroom but with one entrance to the suite and an interconnecting balcony, so it is perfect for families. Only slight improvement would be to have a better quality of shower, as it's not great and sprays a bit randomly. My in-laws had a separate ground floor room which again was spacious and opened out to a small patio area, and was conveniently close to reception. The rooms are not your standard boring decor and have character which reflects the local area, which is something which I personaly liked. During our first stay there was a lot more food on offer at the buffets as there were many more guests, but on our second stay a week or two later, there was noticeably less variety on offer at both breakfast and dinner. There was a decent selection of tasty food on offer, including local dishes, and the chef made some amazing Indian vegetarian food on request as there were very little veggie options at the buffets. Facilities were nice, including the pool and leisure centre, which the kids used, and the beach was just a few steps away. There are hawkers on the beach but if you politely say you are not interested then they move on without any hassle which is nice. We were lucky enough to see turtles hatching from the hotel breeding program- which was a very special experience. However what stood out for us about Serena Beach hotel, and what made for some special memories was the warmth and hospitality of the staff, especially in the restaurant where they got to know us and even had a joyous birthday song and dance for my husband's birthday. We would definitely return here if we came back to Mombasa, as it is also a convenient drive/ uber from Mombasa city.
