Le Domaine de Falgos Golf & Spa

This remote place is set on an idyllic and luscious scenery, perfect for a quiet and peaceful break. While the room is comfortable and pretty spacious, with a balcony overlooking a breathtaking panorama and well manicured golf course, the decor is as for it quite old-fashioned. Sadly, the room was on the first floor along a somber corridor with no lift and no concierge service, not too practical when you need to carry suitcases up and down. The breakfast was the only highlight of our stay. The waiter - Victor - was ever so good, friendly and helpful. He gave us the warmest welcome to start the day. Something that cannot be said about the dinner in the evening. The set menu included in our package lacked total creativity and only one choice: fish, fish and fish. If you wanted to change any of the courses a hefty surcharge would be applied. The amusement-bouche - also fish - was far too salty, and the other dishes were poorly plated, unappetising with a terrible taste. Also, upon arrival, we received a lukewarm welcome. The receptionist did not even introduced the hotel properly nor reminded us what our package included during our stay. We had to find out everything by ourselves. In the morning after talking to a different receptionist, we found out that we could have played 9-hole in the afternoon upon arrival. After expressing disappointment for the lack of information provided, we were made to feel that it was our fault for not knowing as everything was supposedly on our confirmation, which, after double-checking, it was not the case at least not for us. It might be a beautiful place, but the service is terribly disappointing and does not reflect the reputation of this place.

Though not golfers, we went following comments from a golfing friend about its stunning location and facilities. We were not disappointed. Our room had everything we needed except for a kettle, needed by us English to make our tea. It also had a balcony which enhanced our view over the golf course and surrounding countryside which proved to be as stunning as our friend had mentioned. The breakfast offerings were good but the evening meals we had varied, one being very good but the other so,so. The dining room staff though were very friendly and helpful. We both had a massage in the spa which was excellent while my wife made use of the indoor pool which she thoroughly enjoyed. There are a number of signposted walks, two of which we did and though tough for us oldies, we really enjoyed them and the views they offered of the surrounding area including Canigou - the spiritual home of the Catalans - was wonderful. So, overall, a very positive stay.
