Sundowner Motel Sequim

Initially I reviewed this place a couple of months ago based on the first night or two that I spent here ever. My initial review was glowing and was fair and honest for the state of things at that time. Sadly things can change pretty quickly at a place like this. I still feel that it's at least slightly better overall than at least one of the other two budget options in the area but I'm finding myself in a hostile environment and that is the opposite of what I came here for. That's right. Hostile. This is One hostile hostel. It doesn't need to be this way, so why on Earth is it? I feel like the young man who manages this place limits his kindness to a convincing but superficial level which encourages people to book a room with him rather than looking elsewhere. It's most unfortunate that there is unavoidable drama at this place even if you just try to be a good guest and mind your own business. The glowing review that I left in March led to me staying here for the next 4 weeks following that review. Here are some of the serious issues that I was forced to encounter during that stay. The manager decided to create and enforce a new policy without adding it to the agreement and without checking to see if it is a legal requirement for him to impose on guests. I'm talking about mandatory housekeeping on what was initially a spontaneous basis. As in, surprise, we're about to send a cleaner in to disrupt your day and clean up the room with all your stuff still in it and it's a requirement rather than an option. How would you feel about this being imposed as a requirement? Our Bill of Rights actually has something to say about that sort of thing as do the laws in this state which would apply to landlord tenant agreements. It's simply not okay to announce basically eminent domain over a room that somebody has paid for and violate their privacy with mere minutes notice ahead of time. Yet the moment that I even began to express a polite and calm protest, the motel manager switched from previously kind to suddenly quite abrasive and cold, even threatening to kick me out of the motel on negative terms as if an expectation of privacy makes a bad guest. On my 28th day here in that initial 4 weeks, the manager happily announced to me when I paid my daily expense for the day, that he would be giving me a free night on any 28th day consecutive that I stayed here, pointing out that it was the 28th day so I was to keep my money and enjoy a free stay for the night as a gesture of gratitude. Then came his closer which must have been his objective all along despite having taken a really underhanded approach to announcing it and enforcing it. My room would be subject to a mandatory cleaning in a matter of minutes whether I wanted it or not. This made me quite uncomfortable but I countered with a request that the cleaning take place during a window in the early afternoon when I would be gone at a doctor's appointment. He agreed to this. My second time here. Great motel with just the essentials. Good WiFi and very well lit parking lot on the Main Street in town. Perfect for the price point.
