KAMENOI HOTEL TAZAWAKO ★★★★

📍 Komagatake-2-32 Tazawako Obonai, Semboku

"The dinner buffet offers excellent value for money. The single room was very comfortable, and the weather was nice and cool. The price was also reasonable. There are even popsicles available in the hot spring area. Lake Tazawa is nearby, and the scenery is absolutely stunning."

"I made a reservation because I wanted to see the cherry blossoms in Kakunodate. Unfortunately, I was too early and it was farther than I thought! The bus driver and staff were all very kind and friendly. I was touched when they waved goodbye to me on a rainy morning. The food looked beautiful and had a seasonal feel, and the A5 rank beef teppanyaki was meltingly soft and delicious. I was also glad to have the Akita specialty kiritanpo hotpot. However, it was quite flavorful, so I thought it would have been better if they had some white rice. You need a small towel every time you take a bath, so it's better to have two of each. Thank you so much."

Komagatake Onsen ★★★

📍 Shimotakano-80-68 Tazawako Obonai, Semboku

"Near Nyuyu Hot Spring Township, it is quite its own corner. But remember to arrive at the hotel early. Due to inconvenient transportation, I will arrive around 5 o'clock! The bus is almost the last one! I chose a taxi, which cost about 5,000 yen. Get off the bus at a midway stop and call the hotel car for pick-up! Rather inconvenient. But the hotel is early, the dinner is very rich and delicious, and the room is big. The most important thing is that there are 2 outdoor private baths that can be used by guests on a first-come, first-served basis👍"

📍 3051, Lake Tazawa, Sendatsuzawa, National Forest, Semboku

"During winter, the road for the last 800 meters before reaching the hotel is closed, and you must walk in. Guests need to park at Okama Onsen first. Before arrival, you are required to inform the hotel of your check-in time so that a staff member can guide you on foot to the property. The staff will help carry your luggage, but if you have many bags, it’s best to inform them in advance. The highlight of this stay is definitely the walk to the hotel. You walk deep into the forest along towering walls of snow on both sides, and eventually discover the onsen hidden in the woods. It feels truly special and secluded. The lobby area is not very large, and the number of staff is quite limited, but overall the service was very good. Dinner was served at a counter bar, and the chef was extremely friendly and spoke good English. The receptionist at the lobby, who is from Taiwan, speaks English, Chinese, and Japanese fluently. She explained everything clearly, helped carry our luggage on the way out, and even assisted with clearing snow off our car. Personally, I found the public onsen area to be a bit disappointing. The floor was icy and slippery, which felt somewhat unsafe. However, the private onsen in the room was excellent — very private, spacious for an in-room bath, with a beautiful view and wonderfully fragrant mineral water. The room itself was spacious, quiet, and peaceful. Mobile signal does not work inside the hotel, but the hotel provides Wi-Fi, which was stable and fast. Both breakfast and dinner were very good, and the hotel responded to emails and accommodated our special dietary requests, which we really appreciated. The only regret was that the snow was extremely deep during our visit, making it hard to fully see and imagine the surrounding scenery."

Tazawako Lake Resort & Onsen

Tazawako Lake Resort & Onsen ★★★★

📍 Shimotakano-82-117 Tazawako Obonai, Semboku

"It appears that parts of the building have been renovated, but the corridors and stairs still feel old. The bath is compact, but is open for long periods of time, which is appreciated. Meals are provided in the evening and breakfast, and they seem to have put a lot of effort into the main menu. There was a wide variety and we thoroughly enjoyed it. There were overseas tour groups staying there, which made it a little unsettling, but Lake Tazawa was easily accessible by car in the evenings and mornings, so it was a pleasant stay. Personally, I think one night would be enough."

KAMENOI HOTEL TAZAWAKO ★★★★
"This hotel offers excellent value for money; for just over 300 [currency unit] per person, it even includes two meals. The large hotel grounds are lovely for a stroll. The buffet was good, with local specialties being a highlight. However, the restaurant service wasn't quite up to par; some dishes ran out and no one seemed to notice or replenish them promptly. Regarding the onsen, the outdoor pools didn't feel like they were fed directly by the hot spring, but the indoor one felt quite good. The hotel's location is actually very convenient, with a bus stop right outside. It's also close to the Tsurunoyu shuttle bus stop and the Kogen Station, which offers great views of Lake Tazawa, making getting around quite easy."

"As it costs less than 600 including breakfast and dinner, a bus will take you to Tsurunoyu at 8 o'clock, and you will stay for 1 hour and be sent back. At 11 o'clock in the morning, we sent him to the hotel in Tsurunoyu. The food was even better than Tsurunoyu. Although the tatami was too hard and uncomfortable, and the quilt was short and thick, it was not very good to sleep on. But the soundproofing at Tsurunoyu main store is even worse. It is a hotel owned by the same owner as Tsurunoyu and Yamanoyado. Take the bus and rest, call the hotel and they will pick you up. The service is very good. It is a small hotel with less than 10 rooms run by an old man, a little girl, and 2 male employees. I think the private soup that no one goes to is worth 1,000 yuan. Accommodation and food are provided for free 😂 If you drive by yourself, I think you can have breakfast and dinner here and stay at Taze Lake Hot Spring Resort Hotel. Although the hot spring there is a mess, it is a normal hotel room with good sound insulation. There is a toilet in the room, so you don't have to go out to the bathroom in the middle of the night."

Tamagawa Onsen ★★★
"The acidic hot spring with a pH value of 1.1 to 1.2 is probably the strongest hot spring in Japan. The rule is not to suddenly bathe in 100% hot spring water, but to first warm up your body with water that is 50% hot spring water. Indeed, after about 3 minutes in 100% hot spring water, your skin will feel a tingling sensation. It feels like a weak electric current is flowing. Of course, your skin will be smooth after bathing. Is this because the keratin has dissolved? There are a variety of baths, including a reclining bath, a standing bath, a waterfall bath, and a sauna. You can also enjoy a bedrock bath, although reservations are required. If you like hot springs, this might be a place you should visit at least once! The only disappointment is that the dinner buffet is poor in quality!"

Cerulean Resort Aoni ★★★★
"I stayed at this inn for the hot springs and the food. There were few streetlights on the road from the bus stop to the hotel, and some parts were dark at night. It was a cold day, so it was nice that the hotel welcomed me with a warm soup! Dinner was a course meal using locally produced ingredients, and Kiritanpo hotpot was also delicious. The room was clean, and the Japanese-Western room was very spacious and comfortable. I was also happy that the hair dryer in the room was a refa. The bath wasn't big, but it was a relaxing bath with free-flowing hot spring water. The staff were polite and kind. However, it was a cold day, and although it was warmer than outside, it was cold inside the building. In the hallways, dining area, etc."

Tazawako Lake Resort & Onsen ★★★★
"This hotel offers a shuttle service from Tazawako Station, with pickups at 3:30 PM, 4:30 PM, and 5:30 PM. For departures, there are shuttle services to the station at 8:20 AM, 9:20 AM, and 10:20 AM for breakfast. You must call to book; emails are not answered. The half-board option (dinner and breakfast) was excellent; dinner was very generous, and the breakfast ingredients were also great. There are both indoor and outdoor baths. There's also a lounge area for guests to relax in, with complimentary drinks and coffee. The room facilities aren't the newest, but I thoroughly enjoyed my 16-hour stay at the hotel."
