KAMENOI HOTEL TAZAWAKO ★★★★
"The dinner buffet offers excellent value for money. The single room was very comfortable, and the weather was nice and cool. The price was also reasonable. There are even popsicles available in the hot spring area. Lake Tazawa is nearby, and the scenery is absolutely stunning."
Kashintei Shirahama ★★★★
"I made a reservation because I wanted to see the cherry blossoms in Kakunodate. Unfortunately, I was too early and it was farther than I thought! The bus driver and staff were all very kind and friendly. I was touched when they waved goodbye to me on a rainy morning. The food looked beautiful and had a seasonal feel, and the A5 rank beef teppanyaki was meltingly soft and delicious. I was also glad to have the Akita specialty kiritanpo hotpot. However, it was quite flavorful, so I thought it would have been better if they had some white rice. You need a small towel every time you take a bath, so it's better to have two of each. Thank you so much."
Hotel B4T Kakunodate ★★★
"One of the nicest hotels I have stayed at - super big room and extremely comfortable bed! Pyjamas lovely and comfortable, next door to the station. No staff at check in so make sure you have your QR code."
Kakunodate Onsen Kayokan ★★★
"Everything is good, the service staff is very friendly!"
Komagatake Onsen ★★★
"Near Nyuyu Hot Spring Township, it is quite its own corner. But remember to arrive at the hotel early. Due to inconvenient transportation, I will arrive around 5 o'clock! The bus is almost the last one! I chose a taxi, which cost about 5,000 yen. Get off the bus at a midway stop and call the hotel car for pick-up! Rather inconvenient. But the hotel is early, the dinner is very rich and delicious, and the room is big. The most important thing is that there are 2 outdoor private baths that can be used by guests on a first-come, first-served basis👍"
Tamagawa Onsen ★★★
"No comment"
Cerulean Resort Aoni ★★★★
"Excellent food and service"
Magorokuonsen Rokuan ★★
"During winter, the road for the last 800 meters before reaching the hotel is closed, and you must walk in. Guests need to park at Okama Onsen first. Before arrival, you are required to inform the hotel of your check-in time so that a staff member can guide you on foot to the property. The staff will help carry your luggage, but if you have many bags, it’s best to inform them in advance. The highlight of this stay is definitely the walk to the hotel. You walk deep into the forest along towering walls of snow on both sides, and eventually discover the onsen hidden in the woods. It feels truly special and secluded. The lobby area is not very large, and the number of staff is quite limited, but overall the service was very good. Dinner was served at a counter bar, and the chef was extremely friendly and spoke good English. The receptionist at the lobby, who is from Taiwan, speaks English, Chinese, and Japanese fluently. She explained everything clearly, helped carry our luggage on the way out, and even assisted with clearing snow off our car. Personally, I found the public onsen area to be a bit disappointing. The floor was icy and slippery, which felt somewhat unsafe. However, the private onsen in the room was excellent — very private, spacious for an in-room bath, with a beautiful view and wonderfully fragrant mineral water. The room itself was spacious, quiet, and peaceful. Mobile signal does not work inside the hotel, but the hotel provides Wi-Fi, which was stable and fast. Both breakfast and dinner were very good, and the hotel responded to emails and accommodated our special dietary requests, which we really appreciated. The only regret was that the snow was extremely deep during our visit, making it hard to fully see and imagine the surrounding scenery."
Tazawako Lake Resort & Onsen ★★★★
"It appears that parts of the building have been renovated, but the corridors and stairs still feel old. The bath is compact, but is open for long periods of time, which is appreciated. Meals are provided in the evening and breakfast, and they seem to have put a lot of effort into the main menu. There was a wide variety and we thoroughly enjoyed it. There were overseas tour groups staying there, which made it a little unsettling, but Lake Tazawa was easily accessible by car in the evenings and mornings, so it was a pleasant stay. Personally, I think one night would be enough."

HOTEL Reise Basis
"This hotel wasn't cheap; I spent over 530 yen and felt it was too expensive. Breakfast consisted of two rice balls and a bowl of pork belly soup. There was a common area on the second floor where you could watch TV and drink tea. The hotel seemed like a family-run business; there were no bathrobes, only a bath towel, and disposable face towels. If I had a next time, I would choose to stay in a larger city, like Akita."
Shinkokyu
"It was very clean, the room was spacious, and it was very close to the station. It was a great experience."
Shintamagawa Onsen
"My family visits this place when their atopic dermatitis, dry skin, or heat rash gets really bad. Because the hot spring water is highly acidic, people experience varying reactions, from a tingling sensation to a burning feeling, but by the time we get home, it's all gone in no time! I highly recommend you visit...🎵 You'll be very satisfied!"
Kakunodate Guesthouse Fuga
"A very authentic B&B, a bit far from the town center😄 Everything else is good!"
Natsuse Onsen Miyakowasure
"As luxurious as one can expect. Beautiful place in a secluded natural environment with lavish service and delicious food. The bath are very well prepared and the staff is extremely kind and attentive. It is a hard ask but it would be nice to have some western options at breakfast. But of course this is a Japanese traditional inn yet these options would feel even more luxurious. Some of the decoration feels a bit either dated, kitsch or not being harmonious, I think they need a redesign of the furnitures are it looks more like an assemblage than a harmonious selection of decoration and furnitures. It’s a little on the weird side even sometimes! But the bedding is exceptional. You will have a great sleep at this stay!"
Lodge Iris
"The location is rather remote, requiring a car to reach. The entire building is an old-style wooden cabin, even the hot spring bath is made entirely of wood, making for a wonderful soaking experience. The rooms are shared, with no stairs."
Inn Komachiya
"It was cool, clean and comfortable. It was very nice to take a bath at any time in a transparent hot spring."
Akita Art Village Onsen Yupopo
Motoyu Mizusawa Sanso
"The facilities are a bit old, but there is no inconvenience because they meet the necessary and sufficient. The hot springs were so comfortable that I wanted to stay in them all the time. The meal was not luxurious, but none of them were very delicious and happy. I want to go again."
Kakunodate Sanso Wabizakura
"I had wanted to stay there for a while, but unfortunately the steak was cold for dinner. This was the first time I've ever experienced this at a hotel of this level. The food was generally not that great."
Onsen Yupopo
"The room can accommodate up to four floor mats. The area is quite good. The wet and dry areas are separated. The hot springs are separated for men and women, so you can soak in them at night. The room also comes with snacks. The room is also quite clean."
Tazawako Rose Park Hotel
"The location is great, right near the statue of Tatsuko, the environment is quiet, looking out the window you can see the view of the lake, very peaceful and comfortable. We were late on the night of our stay, but the hotel staff reserved dinner for us thankfully, the food was delicious😋"
Farm To Table NORICHIE
"Thank you for the warm hospitality of the owner and his wife. Breakfast and dinner are all local seasonal ingredients. You can also experience the farmwork by the way. I hope to visit again in different seasons."
