We have spent 4 nights at the hotel (two parents + two teenagers) this February. Pros: We liked the location - closed to the ski sites Semmering (closest) and Stuhlek, the size of the rooms, cleanliness, comfortable beds, the amazing view to the mountains from our triple room. The service was excellent: all the staff is very polite and quick to help. The steam sauna is very nice after a day of ski. There is a swimming pool of a decent size. The is a recreational room with a billiard, a "soccer" game and different table games to spent time in the evening. Cons: The food choice at breakfast was average, the restaurant where we had also a dinner (we booked a HB stay) is beautifully decorated, with maps on the table, the personal service of food by the waiters is very professional, the food looks very nice and is served like in a high level restaurant but is not that tasty as it looks like' to our opinion. The soups were delicious. Other dishes were average or lower. Especially deserts. The water in a swimming pool could be warmer. Overall I definitely can recommend this hotel for those who come for skiing.

During my stay at the hotel, there was nothing to complain about. I really appreciate the hotel staff - helpful people at the reception, pleasant and kind waiters, smiling cleaners ... Clean room, excellent food, nice Christmas decorations (including the main terrace) ... and beautiful weather :-)

We originally booked with Hotel Sonnwendhof and the whole booking process was a bit "weird" but that's a long story. Anyway we arrived at Hotel Sonnewendhof only to be told that something (hmmmm....) happened to the room we reserved and that we were being complimentary upgraded to the Artis hotel and we were told it was a "4-star hotel" like it was something we should be stoked about, I informed Alex the hotel owner that I didn't want to stay at the Artis hotel since it's reviews weren't as glowing as his hotel but I was offered only an apology and we were sent on our way. Anyway when we arrived at the Artis Hotel which is actually very close and only about 200 feet up the hill from the Sonnewendhof which I was surprised by. The entire check in process was crazy since Alex had not informed them we were there for 3 nights rather than 2 so we had to sleep on twin beds our first night and were moved to a room with a double bed the next day for the remainder of our stay. I have attached pictures of both. The buffet in the morning and at night are decent and I liked that you had a table already reserved for you so you never had to race around and try and find a table. They have a lot of amenities (pool, sauna, tanning bed, pool table, bowling alley and I even read that they have curling available but we were so busy skiing that we never got the opportunity to try it out. The servers were helpful but there was one lady in particular that was so helpful and always had a smile on her face which made it very pleasant. She worked both the breakfast and night shift in the restaurant and really went out of her way to make us feel cared for. I'm not sure what the price difference is between the Sonnwendhof and the Artis but I would definitely stay at the Artis again.
