If you are looking for a "luxury" hotel, look elsewhere. If you want real luxuries like breathtaking views, unbelievable food, amazing staff and comfort, this is your place. For me this was better than a 5 star hotel. The bio farm is preserved and well looked after. The massage therapies were great. Temezcal experience is nothing short of a breakthrough experience. The cocoa tour is out of this world. The food....I have no words. I am from Chicago, food is our religion. This place goes toe to toe with us!

The place is magical! The staff is welcoming and sweet! Right on the top of small hill watching the lake. A beautiful trail is going out directly from the hotel. Waiting to come back here ASAP! Thank you for the wonderful time ♥️

This is a truly stellar hidden gem! We had a wonderful experience - particularly loved the positive energy, friendly people, gorgeous surroundings, fantastic food. And exceptional customer service! It was truly stellar. I could ask for one or two minor additions to the housing (extra towel hook, perhaps a chair to sit outside), but really, it was outstanding. The rooms were clean, no bugs (I did place some essential oil around which might have deterred them!), and the staff were incredibly helpful and accommodating. The hiking was amazing, and we often felt like we had the place to ourselves!

This place is an absolute gem. If you’re considering taking a moment away in the jungle to be with nature, live on a farm, eat amazing food, try different spa treatments, hike, yoga; this is the place! I stayed farm side which was cool at night. It’s a short hike or shuttle ride to the hotel part where dinner or spa activities are. You will not be disappointed. I’m going back and I can’t wait to experience it again.

I loved my stay at Essence Arenal! It's such a beautiful location, and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. The yoga 🧘♀️ was a wonderful start to each day, and I also took part in the afternoon yin sessions. The treatments were very good. Don't miss the cacao and night tours. Overall I thought my stay was great value, especially compared with many of the other options in Costa Rica (especially anything with 'retreat' in the name). I stayed in one of the tents which I found to be really special. The dawn chorus of birds and howler monkeys was lovely to wake up to.

The property is little dated but ok, it’s surrendered by nature, so it would be nice if cabins had some outdoor sitting furniture.
The area has some beautiful views on the lake and volcano, it’s hard to beat!

Basica hotel with great views to the arenal vulcan
Basic hotel with great views to the arenal vulcano, our room with private bathroom was simple but clean. Nice property with great walks in nature, 30 mins away from fortuna but a car would solve all.
