Lamplighter Inn & Suites at SDSU

Decent place in a college neighborhood. Older, but fairly well kept. Pros: The staff was very cool and very helpful. Con: The TV situation is dismal. It's an older DirectTV system and I could only get about 5 channels, only political news shows, no local channels. I was there several days and it never improved. Another Con: even though the complex was fairly quiet, every single thing in my room made noise. The Heater/AC had an incessant ticking that affected my sleep, the toilet had a drip in the tank that could be heard from the bed, and the fridge was noisier than most. Even though I had a white noise machine, these things disturbed my ability to sleep in peace.

The location is very convenient, close to SDSU, and plenty of great restaurants close by. The service is great and the room is spacious, we enjoyed our stay here.

We were extremely grateful to have chosen Lamplighter for the week. I was like being at home! We wish we could recall the names of all the employees but it has been nearly a month since in San Diego. Thank you Lamplighter for making our Anniversary vacation wonderful! Bob & Maria

This is a very nice place to stay. We were having a new roof put on and needed to get away because of the warning about noise and the danger of going in and out of the house (falling debris). And cats are allowed, nice!! The room was very clean, no pet smells or damage, no perfume-y cover-up smell (we have a smell sensitivity, perfumes give us a headache), just clean rooms, bathroom and kitchen included. In fact, I was pleasantly surprised about the cookware (and dishes), again, very clean and a breeze to use..nice cookware! Add to that the staff, Verenice and Gem at the front desk, and it was great!! We had reserved the room already when rain caused scheduling problems with the roofing job and Verenice helped navigate that with ease. Then another hiccup with the roof and Gem took care of it reassuring me it was okay; by the time one last problem came up, I was embarrassed to approach the office! Yet again, Verenice reassured me, "things happen" and helped us out by making sure we could stay the extra night in the same room, again with ease and grace, making me feel better about it all. They were just wonderful, absolutely wonderful. I feel we were blessed staying here after searching for a place near our home with a kitchen, that accepted pets, and it was so clean and accommodating....just a true blessing.

I picked this hotel because I had a business arrangement in that area. At first. I was little skeptical but to my surprise it turned out a very accommodating place. Very clean, great beds, great service, good breakfast. The only downside is the carpet. If they would only invest into new floors. That’s why I gave 4 and not 5.
