Tru by Hilton St. Louis Downtown

My wife and I live locally in Weldon Spring (about 30 miles west of downtown St. Louis) and we were here for a concert at Enterprise Center. I have no idea what the bad reviewers were talking about, but we didn't experience anywhere NEAR what they did (but, blowing things out of proportion isn't the social media way, right?). The only issue we had was there were no towels in our room! So, I called the front desk, got someone right away, they apologized and we got towels. All we needed was a basic standard room for the night. I wouldn't recommend any more than two people in a standard room because that's all the room there is. It was clean, the HVAC worked, the mini-fridge worked, bed was comfortable. Yes, there is a lot of noise outside because of punks thinking they're cool because they have a really loud car. But the hotel cannot do anything about that! Luckily, it did not go on all night long. Our valet parking worked flawlessly. Not long after we checked in, my wife realized she had left something she needed in the car. So we headed back down, they quickly brought our car back to us within 5 minutes. Even after check out, our car was retrieved in a matter of a few minutes. So aside from the lack of towels after we checked in, which was quickly ratified, we had a really nice stay!

The check in process was terrible. It took over 30 minutes to check in because the line was so long and only one person checking people in which made us late to our event. There was no parking, no parking lot, only valet parking for $55 per night or metered parking but we didn’t find a spot for several blocks. The property smelled strongly of ****, rooms are very small and no coffee pot in the room. One of the shades was broken on the window so there was a lot of light coming in the room. The tv came on in the middle of the night and scared us. One of the elevators shook terribly and would go up a little before it came back down to the right floor. Pros: staff was friendly and good breakfast, comfortable bed.

Only thing that would make it better would be parking. It was a great hotel and great staff.

The front desk people are kind but incompetent at taking care of the business. There is a lack of communication. Fees are charged without advance notification. You are only notified by email later of extra charges, but you are not told anything face-to-face.
