We drove here with our dog, and it was a fantastic stay! The hotel is about a 10-minute drive from the town centre, but the scenery is stunning, and both breakfast and dinner were absolutely delicious. The room was small but cosy, and they allow dogs for a very small extra fee, which was great. Every member of staff was incredibly friendly, and the food at the partner restaurant really impressed me—it even made me fall in love with British food all over again! For the price and experience, this trip felt absolutely perfect. I loved every moment of it!

The Lodge in the Vale is a lovely place - everything worked really well for us and I'm very happy to recommend! Best points: Easy parking, great location, good value friendly reception staff, super clean and fresh room, comfy bed, quiet rooms, terrific continental breakfast and even a TV that works properly (they don't always in Lake District hotels!!) Less good points: Nothing really. Although I'd have preferred it if dogs hadn't been allowed in the buffet breakfast room for hygiene reasons. It was a bit of a disappointment stepping over Fido to get to my toast.

The surroundings and scenery are fabulous. The location of the hotel is great. The room was fine and clean but close to the road so passing cars affected sleep on warm nights with window open. No air conditioning. The cafe was very nice and coffee was good but there was absolutely no ambience. A limited amount of alcohol was available. The 2 staff did not converse at all and although polite, we’re not friendly and looked quite unhappy. Added to this there was no background music etc and not only did the cafe/bar close at 9 pm, the whole seating area was locked up too, so only bedroom to sit in during evening. The sister hotel up the road was great, with good food and welcoming staff, but it was a drive away. It’s such a shame about the lodge shutting everything up at 9 pm as it could be a nice social area for guests after a day out walking etc. At £100 a night room only, I would have expected more. Won’t be back sadly!!

The lady I spoke to on first arrival was very pleasant. I had informed the place that I was bringing 2 dogs, I was put in the very furthest room meaning carrying the extra doggy luggage took several difficult trips. The room was ok except for the fact that it had no windows, just a skylight. So no view of the lovely countryside, in fact no view at all. It was a very hot few days but the only fresh air came from the skylight. It was a precarious climb on the bed to open it. The noise from the traffic on the busy road kept me awake most of the nights. It was very loud.

The most appalling attitude we've ever experienced from a waitress. We parked up with two children aged 6 and 8 who were absolutely dying to go to the toilet. Their toilet has a code and lock on which is fair as I imagine they get a lot of people stopping off for toilet trips, howeve we headed in and my husband asked if he could order some coffee/ ice cream for the kids. He was flat out of ignored by a single waitress who just carried on serving, we gave her her time as she had a group outside waiting for drinks when she came back I asked if the girls could sued her toilet again and she responded the code will be on your receipt. Children are now at this point dancing around eldest starting to cry desperate. I then looked like can we order yet then and she just walked into the back room and shut the door. Honestly it thought it might be a hidden camera comedy sketch at this point so we just left. Kids did a wildy in the car park instead. Top ten don't recommend. Defo not family friendly.
