We stayed in this hotel for single night in late November. The hotel is a modern, four storey block with 102 rooms (we understand some on the ground floor are suitable for guests with reduced mobility). For us the hotel was handily located off the M6 and we believe would serve the racecourse well! There appear to be some bus services in the locality but the hotel has adequate free car parking – don’t forget to register your car at reception. The entrance to the hotel gives onto a small reception area behind which is a bar and beside which is a large soft seating area and the dining area. The soft seating area is large, warm and comfortable and is an exception to the usual ibis Styles layout (but this hotel was once a Ramada Encore). Our room was comfortable, clean and once the radiator was switched on (no aircon) it was very pleasant. There was a small work surface seating. The bed was comfortable with reasonable quality linen. The whole room was horse-racing themed. The bathroom was a reasonable size with a walk in shower. The room and bathroom whilst entirely acceptable are in need of a bit more maintenance which could lift the room from the ordinary to the very good. We experienced no inter-room noise but we were positioned above the front entrance and thereby an area where smokers congregated and talked. There was also noise from the corridor when a coach party arrived very late in the evening. Earplugs might be advisable. There is no noise from the reception/bar. Wifi was fine. We took dinner in the restaurant – but food can be ordered and eaten in the soft seating area. The restaurant has little ambience other than that of a works canteen – food and service were excellent, however, to the point where the surroundings were largely forgotten. The evening menu was a little thin for vegetarians. For guests wanting a different experience there is a pub with a restaurant/carvery across the car park. Breakfast was a self-service buffet, hot and cold food and we were invited to order vegetarian extras. There was plenty of everything and it was regularly replenished. Every member of staff that we encountered was excellent. Friendly, professional and efficient. The hotel does take tour groups. The size of the dining room would probably be adequate for a single coachload but none were evident when we took breakfast. This hotel is sensibly priced and offers excellent value for money. We would thoroughly recommend it. What it is and what it does it does very well indeed.
