Kyriad Dieppe - Saint Aubin Sur Scie

In 36 years of travelling abroad, this has to be our worst accommodation experience bar none! Arrived 10.45pm expecting a ground floor room, but the indifferent receptionist dismissed our request to double check as ‘hotel fully booked’ with that left the hotel (now unattended) leaving us to struggle upstairs (my wife has severe arthritis) and find our tiny room, (113 for reference). On entering it was immediately noticeable that a strong odour was present. It was unbearably difficult to breathe but we opened the window fully, and tried to get to sleep. By 2.30am, we were struggling to breathe, our throats were closing up, and my wife was beginning to panic. As the hotel was unattended at night, I had to phone the sister hotel, Golden Tulip, and to his credit the night porter came across. As soon as he entered the room he offered to change rooms (even though it was ‘fully booked’ according to the earlier staff member. I accompanied him to the reception area, and he searched and found not 1 but 3 rooms available, including a twin room on the ground floor! Due to the late hour, and not wanting to struggle downstairs we accepted another room on the same floor, and although my wife remained awake, it was much easier to breathe and I fell asleep for 3 hours. Next morning my wife discovered damage to her previously pristine travel bag (something had had a good chew both ends it appeared!). Despite an apologetic smile and shrug from the morning receptionist, we left feeling very tired and aggrieved by the experience. Our onward 9 hour journey thankfully passed without incident . On complaining to the hotel manager and their parent company, we have been summarily dismissed as ‘they acted swiftly in changing our room’ As to the damage, it was ‘wear and tear’. If the bag had been like it before we left home it would have been left behind (and it was only its 3rd outing). The whole experience could have been avoided if the initial receptionist had been bothered to check ground floor availability. After all, all we wanted from the hotel was a few hours decent sleep, and a reasonable breakfast before hitting the road. Do they really think we wanted to wait until 2.30am for the sake of something to do, after all, we are only paying customers who gave them nearly £90 for the privilege of staying in a small box room (they appear to be all small judging by other reviews) and suffering like we did. I wished now we had read all the other Trip Advisor and Trust pilot reviews for this Hotel Group, as the rule of thumb seems to be poor standards all round , and all complaints ignored or dismissed. If we can just help someone else avoid this hotel and the nightmare experiences, then this review will have been worthwhile 🤬

This was just an overnight stop after arriving in Dieppe by ferry. We were sent codes for access as we were arriving late. It was easy enough to find the hotel with a Satnav. The room was quite small but it was clean and perfectly adequate for an overnight stop and the bed was comfortable. We left quite early and didn’t need our look for any food options or other facilities.
