"If I could give zero stars, I would. The accommodation is extremely unhygienic, with no fan or air conditioning in 25 degrees + heat, and it smelt awful and filthy. This forces you to keep the window open (a small window that does not help with the heat), which lets in insects, mosquitoes, and rodents. The smell inside the volunteer slums was so bad it made me feel physically ill, and I saw mice roaming around INSIDE the hostel - clear evidence of how unclean the place is. I had accepted a volunteer position in marketing and travelled over 13 hours to get there, only to leave within 24 hours due to the conditions and the horrible manager. I was meant to stay for one month so had packed a huge suitcase worth of necessities, that I was left dragging around trying to find somewhere else to go. Despite raising concerns about cleanliness before committing and Joana the manager giving me her word that the negative reviews were not factual, I had made it very clear I was only interested if the standard of living was decent, yet I was lied to, had my concerns for basic human needs dismissed and they forced me to leave when I pointed out the misleading information,( after reassuring me on the video call that they wouldn’t do that), leaving me stranded and short on money in Sagres ( literally known as the end of the world due to how far south it is). The staff were extremely unprofessional and showed no care for my, or any of the volunteers & customers wellbeing. When I tried to find a solution, including offering to buy my own fan or pay them to move to a cleaner space , they refused. They claimed that fans and air conditioning weren’t allowed on their premises due to “health and safety,” which was in fact an excuse to cut costs at the expense of basic comfort and hygiene. Joanna and Anna were dishonest and inconsistent in their communication. One denied being the manager, while the other confirmed she was, in order to avoid taking ownership of their lies to me. I also witnessed staff being shouted at by Anna, which echoed the negative reviews I had read before booking. I came prepared with cleaning supplies, fully aware this wasn’t a luxury stay, but the conditions were far worse than expected and no amount could change that. The place lacked any form of ventilation, and nothing was done to manage the pest problem. I have never in my life been treated so terribly by anyone, and I did not even receive an apology. This hostel should not be in operation. If you value your health, safety, and dignity, avoid it completely. And if you're considering volunteering here, know that there are many other opportunities where you will be respected and treated like a human being—this is not one of them. The other volunteers told me the living conditions were actually worse when they arrived. Biggest mistake of my life was trusting them and coming here. Wasted my money, time and health."

"Overall it is a solid 4.5 star hotel and experience. The location is unbeatable, with breath-taking beach and sea view just off the front desk, as well as our beach room. The beach room is highly recommended for someone into the ocean view. The facility and staff are great. The Mercado even sells medicine (we got Gasvicon) which my wife could use the day we were there. The only downside that makes it not a full 5 star is that the room, decoration, and furniture are a bit outdated."

They also have a 24 hour snack and coffee station which includes a daily tipple such as port or local liqueur."

"The hotel is very clean and comfortable and has a very clean room with a terrace and a long-seat swimming pool. Just a little point, it's a pity that the orange juice of breakfast is not made with fresh oranges 👍"
