Nice place and this hotel have many peacocks, it’s lovely hotel but no lift if you have heavy baggage you should ask for first floor.

The castle is over 800 years old, very nice, with more than a dozen peacocks inside, often spread their tails 🦚, not afraid of people at all. The meal is also good!

Unique castle stay, with plenty of heritage and history.
Spacious room that accommodates a king bed, sofa bed and additional single bed.
However, please note of the simple toilet amenities in view of preserving its heritage.

I didn’t know how to turn on the air conditioner in the room, so I ordered a set meal that included breakfast and dinner. The burgers for dinner were delicious, and the steak for an extra 2.5 was even better. There are many peacocks, which can be fed and are not afraid of people. After staying for three days, I met a couple having their wedding there on the first day.

Just returned from a weekend stay at Ruthin castle for our 30th wedding anniversary. The staff made us feel so welcome making our anniversary feel even more special. Set in lovely grounds with the resident peacocks walking around it really is a lovely quiet tranquil experience. We Stayed in a lovely en-suite room overlooking the grounds. You really need to try the restaurant of an evening serving excellent food. The breakfast served of a morning setting you up for the day’s adventure.

There were a lot of peacocks - clearly they are dinosaurs with tiny heads and show off feathers. The place was nice, beyond the feathers. I would have liked to have more time there.

Set in beautiful grounds so great if you get nice weather but as others have said it has a tired interior. Our room was clean and big as we'd paid for a suite for our anniversary, so it was lovely having the lounge to sit in and nice views. Another couple we met were on the lower ground floor and said that had no view at all. The tea tray in the room was very disappointing, no biscuits, the usual instant coffee, and just a couple of loose t-bags, not very hygienic and also no clue if decaff or normal! No fruit tea or anything interesting which given it was a suite is odd. The Premier Inn Plus rooms have a Nespresso machine, after all! Staff were lovely but breakfast was very average. Hot was bacon, sausage, fried egg, mushrooms and disappointingly tinned tomatoes. Cereal very small selection and same with yoghurt and fruit, very underwhelming. Pastries, just croissants, but these were nice and fresh at least. No nice bread, just UHP stuff to toast. If you want dinner you MUST book in advance. We were on DBB deal and had £30pp to spend but this doesn't get you much! Some of the mains were £23 / £24, the starters and desserts about £9 and up. We shared a mackerel pate to start which was lovely and I had the vegetarian Aubergine Parmesan main which was lovely, although would be too spicy for some. My husband had chicken, quite nice. We shared a cheese board instead of dessert. VERY disappointing as it just had 4 pieces of truckle cheese, ones we can by in any supermarket in Wales, no nice local or interesting cheeses. Finally it was our 26th wedding anniversary, hence why we were treating ourselves to a suite. We were wished Happy Anniversary, both as we arrived AND at the Restaurant, which is a nice touch but no little extra or teat which is unusual and a bit of a shame. All in all, although we had a nice stay, I can only recommend if you get a really good deal! And if you do, might be worth looking into a suite (see pictures of De Grey suite below) and definitely book dinner if you want to eat in!

We were guests at a wedding celebration, sharing the ground floor of the Castle with another group event. A very small number of staff members split their time between the two, which impacted our event significantly regarding waiting, often queueing, at our bar to be served. Approximately 80 of us were alarmed at the sight of the buffet, which appeared to be a 1970s set of tasteless lunch leftovers: dreadful unimaginative sandwiches -unbuttered cheap claggy bread with tuna straight from the tin, not even mixed with mayonnaise, packet sliced ham etc; the tiniest of sticky chicken wings; hand cut chips held under what we assumed was a heated steel cover but they were not warm at all. It also seemed as if there were precisely 80 of each item, as when the bride and groom had completed the photography and were ready to eat there was nothing left for them, and a request had to be made to prepare something extra for them. We had been considering booking the venue for a celebration of our own but we laughingly dashed those ideas; Ruthin Castle was once a jewel in the town but I beg you: lower your expectations.
