Wonderful Stay! I travelled a long way from Cornwall and arrived late in the evening for just one night. I was a bit worried it might be busy or noisy and that I wouldn’t get much rest — but I was so pleasantly surprised! The room was spotless, the bed very comfortable, and the atmosphere quiet and relaxing. It was exactly what I needed after a long journey. Very welcoming hosts too. Thank you!

This review cocerns fishermen who may stay at The Duke....My brother and I stayed 1 night after a fishing trip that included a discount for a stay at The Duke. When I presented my fishing ticket as proof of my booking my discount was refused , the reason given was that I didn't do it online when I booked my room. But, I did not book online I booked by telephone. I felt this rather harsh especially as I had have stayed at the Duke before...also, I was given 'Somerset' room which had a walkin shower...when using the shower the whole room was covered in water and was like a skating rink..then you had to use a long handled squeegie to get rid of the water, the next occupant then had to repeat the procedure...I did not pay for a 'de luxe' room to be put on toilet duties..the wash basin was also ridiculously low and impossible to use without getting water all over the floor. On a positive note the food was excellent.

This is our second visit to this lovely pub. We stayed here while visiting the concorde club to see a band. The decor in the restaurant/bar is beautiful, charming and cosy. We stayed in Beaufort room on the ground floor and it was fabulous. It's an end room so it was very quiet. It has a seating area outside looking onto the car park but sheltered by a hedge. The room is spacious and decorated in gorgeous autumnal colours. The bed was so soft and comfortable and we had a great night's sleep. The bedroom and bathroom were spotlessly clean. The only thing I can say is I would have liked some hand/body lotion. It's offered in some hotels. We had dinner in the restaurant which was plentiful and tasty. The cocktails are fantastic. Breakfast in the morning was also wonderful. The staff are so attentive, friendly and efficient. A real credit to the hotel. We will definitely be back again.

We’ve just returned from a weekend break at The Duke with a group of friends. Everything about it was excellent. Comfortable, attractive rooms with huge beds, all very clean. The food was superb and all the staff were smiling, friendly and very efficient. The bar/restaurant was always busy which gave it a good atmosphere. There’s a nice riverside walk along the river Test and the little town of Romsey is not to be missed. Broadlands and NT Mottisfont are close by. We highly recommend The Duke and intend to return.

I stayed here for a weekend with my 3 year old great niece. The ladies cleaning the rooms were lovely and extremely friendly but when I asked the relevant staff if it would be okay to check in 90 minutes early, I was told ‘there’s a £20 charge’. I explained that I simply wanted somewhere to put the luggage as I was taking care of my little great niece and her parents had brought her to drop her off so it would just be easier to leave the stuff in the room. This was agreed but it felt rather begrudgingly! The room was okay. I wouldn’t describe it as luxurious though. I know the Inn is very old and a historic place which I loved but the lighting in the room was very dim even with all the lights on and it had the basics I would expect. The wifi was next to useless and wouldn’t give any reliable service. I’m unsure what is supposed to make the room luxurious? When I asked if I might be able to have some extra pillows just to put up against the bed just as a precaution in case my little girl rolled out of the bed I was told ‘that would cost extra’. Really?! I didn’t find the staff overly friendly apart from one lady who was serving breakfast on the second morning. I checked out without saying goodbye as a) there was no one at the bar when I left the key and b) it hadn’t been the friendliest stay I’ve had so I just didn’t feel like it.

I had such great attention (solo traveller) from ALL the staff. So much info given during my stay. I started my stay with a lovely Sunday roast. Thankfully I checked the size an realised it was way to big for me. So very kindly the waitress suggested the children's one. It was perfect for me. I then got to have a pudding (pear crumble). Everything was very good. Another diner made a complaint (totally unfair). The manager Lewis came to appogise and also the waitress serving me. There was no need for them to do this but I felt upset they experience this kind of thing. Especially when all the staff go above an beyond. My room was lovely. Very clean. Could maybe do with a brighter lighting. The decor in the room an around the hotel was fantastic. So detailed an carefully thought out. My best thing was the perfect shower. It was so roomy, the holders for you to put your own products (there are mounted products too) was amazing. The shower it self worked instantly at right temperature. No flooding of the floor as some showers do. All in all it was a hi light of my stay?? The breakfasts are served to you from a menu. I feel they may stop lots of waste ie on the self service style. I was made aware this hotel is a great hit with the fishing crowd. And I met some guys really enjoying their time there to do a fishing trip. Parking is allocated via name of your room. I was excited by that but sadly never got my place as always a car in there.? The pub bar closes at 9pm on a Sunday only, rest of the time its 11pm. Now on to the absolute kindness of my room cleaning lady. We bonded so easily. A very kind helpful lady. I wished guests would be respectful to the ladies that do this job. And leave your room pleasant for them to refresh an clean. A very busy pub/ hotel serving great food with great staff who cant do enough for you. I noted so much whilst there.

Stayed for a family birthday celebration. The evening meal was delicious and the menu had a good variety of food to choose from, we all had breakfast the next morning, all were wonderful and again there was a great choice. I had the most amazing sleep the bed was the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in! Water pressure is great so a lovely refreshing shower. In beautiful surroundings and had a lovely walk along the river, parking was reserved for each room so no issues with parking. There always seemed a lovely amount of guests around to give it a great atmosphere (and they have the best wallpaper in the ladies toilets that I’ve ever seen) thank you to Lewis and his wonderful staff for a most needed break. Would definitely book again.
