The Castle House Luxury Bed & Breakfast

We were greeted by Diana , who showed us around, with a complimentary glass of wine on arrival brought to our very pretty room ‘ Stang’. Shower room excellent and bed very comfortable. It was very quiet and peaceful. Breakfast prompt and beautifully cooked. Location was brilliant on the edge of the square. A very pleasant stay

A charming stay at Castle House. The staff were wonderful, very friendly and helpful. The rooms and bathroom were spotlessly clean, and comfy beds. Breakfast was delicious, we would recommend and stay again!

To be honest, I have no idea why this place is rated so highly. Before attending, we read the multiple excellent reviews which in reality made the decision of where to stay for us. Yes, the welcome drink is a nice touch and the location just off the square is perfect for exploring Richmond. The free parking is a pain as every two hours you have to move your car and reset the disc given to you to avoid fines. It takes away the relaxing aspect. We booked two nights at £362. Expensive for a B & B but you get what you pay for, right???? The room itself was a mish mash of antiques. The wallpaper was in dire need of being replaced, the bathroom was similar to one from my childhood. Bath, no shower. The words 'luxury and boutique' are not what I would use. The room wasn't tired, it was completely exhausted. I was quite surprised by being asked to submit our breakfast requirements the night before and even more surprised when served in the morning. Hash browns were very hard, as were the two very small pieces of black pudding (sitting under a heat lamp?). My fried egg had an oil spill similar to the Exxon Valdez. On the second day I chose to have scrambled eggs on toast which I have to say were lovely. At £181 per night it was not value for money. The Premier Inn in Catterick may well have been a better choice. Seriously, don't advertise your property as something that it clearly isn't, or were we placed in a room that hasn't had the 'luxury/boutique' makeover yet.

This is really not a luxury b&b. It is quaint with wonky floors, but the bedroom was very small and difficult to move around in. Only 3 hangers in the wardrobe, sink plug didn't work and no hot water for washing in the sink for our 2 day stay. The bathroom mirror lights flashed on and off after a while. Parking is only free for 2 hours, after that you have to move the car to a car park down a steep hill 7 minutes away. That has to be paid for via Ringo. The breakfast was lovely, the situation on the square is very convenient but otherwise, quite mediocre and overpriced. Staff were very pleasant though

Host kept in contact regularly before arrival. Complimentary alcoholic drink on arrival. Free parking. Lovely breakfast room with traditional feel and crockery. Very quirky, but we like quirky house crooked and in places in rooms not straight, full of character. Bed really comfy had a great nights sleep and rooms not stuffy like modern hotels.

Great place to stay and breakfast was fab. Nigel and co are very welcoming and helpful. Would definitely recommend if looking for somewhere to stay.
