Ibis Recife Boa Viagem

First off, an important correction: Pina is the neighbourhood the hotel is located in, not the famous Boa Viagem, used to attract visitors unfamiliarised with Recife, a catfish classic. The unit keeps the standards found in all Ibis branches around the world and that means consistency and implies that most complaints about the infra-structure come from those with little travelling knowledge/experience or false expectations. Staff is the best asset of the hotel, they are all kind and efficient, and it's great to be back where people know your name already! The whole reception area, including bar and eatery, have been revamped and all looks cosy and appealing. That's used as an excuse not to have done anything about the rooms, which should always be the top priority: it's a hotel, not a restaurant! Rooms are far dated and no longer offer the comfort expected, hence so many complaints and unpleasant surprises. Cleanliness is appalling and I myself also found a roach in my room back in December, simply inexcusable! In my honest view, the price is far too high for what is offered and, until full renovation is made in the rooms - that's what a hotel sells anyway! -, choosing to stay there cannot be seen as cost-effective. I am really pondering whether to choose it again in the future... PS. Breakfast is certainly among the best in the whole town, even better than many five-star hotels!!

This is a super convenient hotel, very well priced. Location is the key: it’s less than 5 mins walk from a lovely beach and only 20 mins from the airport. There’s a decent cafe and social area near Reception on the ground floor. Rooms are clean and functional.
