The Royal Oak Hotel

Ok for a solo traveller but only just. No hot water for shower all weekend, no lift so be careful if you have trouble with your health like I have. Bumpy bed not very pleasant

Sorry to say we did not enjoy our stay as much as last time 3 years ago. The hotel has lost its character. We were expecting bed and breakfast and had paid for it as our booking clearly states, but the hotel failed to tell us that since we booked they had closed the kitchen for refurbishment, so no food and we were at the mercy of the street cafes, just like that! Not only that, they had even old off the entire bar too, so there was nothing to do except watch TV or sleep. The bar pictured on the website was unavailable while we were there. The staff were very friendly and tried to help but if you're in the hospitality industry with a hotel that once had a reputation, you can't just shut down the facilities and fail to inform your customers. Letting them down like this is so unprofessional. A few minor issues as well: No cold drinking water, it was luke warm. No shaver sockets. Shaver sockets in a modern hotel are essential for shavers and for electric toothbrushes. A loose tap which caused me to drop a glass which smashed on the bathroom floor.

The Royal Oak is in a brilliant position overlooking the harbour and close to the town centre and famous beaches. It a very clean and comfortable with extremely helpful staff. The new owner is very enthusiastic and planning quite few improvements. We would definitely stay there again for a really enjoyable break.
