Holiday Inn Express Poughkeepsie

Woke up early enough to try the breakfast for once and it wasn’t bad for what it was. They had a good selection of choices to have with some fresh fruits which was nice. The cinnamon rolls were very hard on the outside but the middle was soft and good flavor wise. I really enjoyed the Frosted Flakes with chocolate milk :)

The first room had a number of issues. The 1st was the security latch was broken off and hanging by one finger tight screw. Next thing you noticed was the A/C in the room didn't work, this was hard to notice because the A/C in the lobby and hallways also was not working. This place you cannot open the windows so HVAC is critical. Finally the parking lot light outside the window was strobing. This was not such a big issue since we could close the draps. When I mentioned this to the staff they said they know but had no excuse as why they could not change a light bulb that was strobing into 1/2 their guests room. So we switch rooms, this room also had sloppy maintenance issues but at least the A/C worked. Finally about midnight this is all sorted and the fire alarm starts going off @ 1AM. Apparently if anyone in the building takes a shower with the door open the fire alarm goes off and we need to sit outside till the fire department shows up. The fire alarm with the shrill beeping and strobe lights went off for over 1/2 hour and seemed more like an hour. I cannot think of one time in my 62 years where I have had a worse hotel experience than my one Saturday night in Poughkeepsie.
