My Dad and I come up to the Glen Lyon every year, and it is always a great experience. The staff there are absolutely incredible! In particular I want to thank KRISTY, who found my very expensive Bose earbuds that I had forgotten when I checked out the day before. After searching my room...twice...she started searching other areas and found them in the laundry room. I would never have thought to check there. THANK YOU KRISTY!!

The property is located on the harbour with beautiful views from the room. It was wonderful to have a balcony to step out onto to enjoy the views, as it was ever changing. The room was comfortable & clean & we appreciated having a microwave, mini-fridge & coffee machine. The front desk staff were polite, professional & helpful.

The staff were fantastic….very helpful, happily accommodating requests we had. Property is older and dated but very clean with bathroom renos done in recent years. Larger than standard hotel room fridge was a bonus with access to a large deep freeze available even in early morning hours were an added bonus. Location by marina and proximity to town with resident eagles perching on the marina gazebo a plus.

Very disappointed in this hotel. We had driven from Tofino to Port Hardy to be staged for a Sea Otter Trip in Port Alice (no accommodations for 1 night available there). After a very long, exhausting drive we just wanted a good nights rest. Pulling into the hotel I was immediately concerned by the fact it looked dilapidated. My 82 year old Mom and I got out of the car anxious to get checked in an use the restroom as it had been a long time since we’d seen any site of a restroom on the drive. An older lady was working the counter and we told her how tired we were and looked forward to being checked in. She took forever to get us checked in saying they had new computer equipment. She kept running my credit card over and over to do a pre-authorization hold. Finally she gave us the keys to our room on the 3rd floor. We took the elevator up and walked down the balcony to our room. The balcony felt like it could give-way and needs reinforcement - made us very nervous. Went to use the room keys and neither of them would work. I was furious. Had to walk back to the elevator, back to the lobby and told her that the keys didn’t work. No apology instead she says “Glad you came back - I need your credit card again - I accidentally charged you an extra $200 instead of a pre-authorization amount and need to redo it. “. She then ran a credit, so she says, and then a pre-authorization again. Then fooled around with the cards. At least 5 minutes passed as my mom was left standing on the 3rd floor waiting for my return. Again - no apologies about any of this. Finally back to the room and let us in. After we used the bathroom I inspected the room. I couldn’t figure out how to get the AC going as the room was very warm and stuffy from having sun baking on the window all day. I opened the glass slider to the balcony and noticed no screen so I couldn’t just leave it open to let the air in as there were bugs flying around in addition to birds / seagulls. I also stepped onto the balcony and it felt like it too was going to sink or give-way - very unstable. Definitely think someone needs to inspect that. I went back downstairs to inquire about how to get the AC working. The gal says “There is no AC”. I said “What? I didn’t see that mentioned. It is very warm”. She says “Open the window”. I said, “I didn’t but there is no screen and I don’t want the bugs and birds in the room”. She shrugged her shoulders and said “That’s Port Hardy”. Seriously? So rude. How about “I’m so sorry there was a misunderstanding about the AC.” At the very least. Would have been to offer to let us cancel the room free of charge so we could have gone elsewhere. The hotel is undergoing some renovations on the outside but it needs a TON of work and if you aren’t going to offer AC be sure to post that very clearly and add good screens to the glass sliding door so people can leave it open.
