Allegro Playacar - All Inclusive Resort

My husband and I just got back from Allegro Playacar for our 25th wedding anniversary. We had the best week, and we plan to book there again in six months. Our room was lovely. Close to the beach and to one of the pools. The air conditioning worked great, and it was hot outside. The shower heated up well. The king size bed was comfortable. The buffet options were good, but it's all inclusive, so if you're expecting a Michelin star restaurant, you will be disappointed. We found things we enjoyed at every meal. And, we ate 2 nights at the Italian restaurant, and that was yummy. You have to line up in the lobby each morning to make reservations at the a la carte restaurant, and they should work to improve that process. The nightly entertainment was very good - Michael Jackson review, acrobatic dancing, Las Vegas style magician, a night of romance. We went every night and it was very enjoyable. We got a couple's massage onsite and that was awesome. I went back the next day for an equally good hands and feet massage. Ask for Maria. The prices were expensive for the area, so you probably could venture off the resort for cheaper prices. Playacar is a gated neighborhood, and felt very safe. We took a left out of the resort every morning and walked 2 minutes to Starbucks. There's a cute plaza there with stores, a gym, and a bar. Allegro Playacar has its own store onsite, also, and we bought t-shirts and hats there. The pools and swim up bar were clean and well maintained. The beach was beautiful and very close to the resort. The most important thing to mention was the entirely wonderful staff at the resort. I wanted to improve my Spanish, and they patiently helped me all week. Our stay was greatly improved by the warm and helpful folks, from housekeeping to waiters to the spa to the hostesses. We even talked to the operations manager, and he was very helpful. Humberto, David, Ariel, Rafael...we will be back! Thank you for such a welcoming and relaxing week to celebrate our anniversary ❤️.

This is my 5th trip to Allegro Playacar. The staff at First Club have become my family over the years. Mayra, Gala, Diana, Angel and Andres make our stay at the club so fun and memorable every time. The service here is unbeatable, they are kind, friendly, fun and so so so attentive. It’s always like coming back to my Mexican home. ✨✨ I would highly recommend OVC and Allegro to everyone who’s looking for a great vacation.

The experience was spectacular for me. This is my first time in Playa del Carmen and most definitely will not be the last. My room was ocean view which I really love to wake up to this gorgeous view and sunset. The vicinity was clean and quiet. The food was good especially the restaurants. The night shows were very entertaining and for me the romantic night was the best one. I do recommend this hotel and give it 10/10.

I have traveled to Allegro for spring break with young children, and my mother who has mobility issues. We have previously stayed at Barceló Maya complex, and Occidental Xcaret and Cozumel, as well as multiple Iberostar properties, so this review is comparing Allegro to those properties. We requested rooms closer to the beach, since my mother can’t walk far. Our request was not honored, so I was initially worried how she’ll be able to get around. No need to worry, however: resort is very small, with minimal walking involved. It is very handicapped friendly: there are no stairs. Everything is very close. Even buffet, that is located on second floor, has a wheelchair accessible ramp going to it. I 100 percent recommend this resort to people with mobility issues. We were family of 7, so had 2 separate rooms. One in building 31, the other one in building 32. I ended up very much liking this location: it is very private, quiet, half way between beach and buffet restaurant. We did end up having air conditioning problems in building 32. We had to switch rooms to the one in building 54, and new room was perfect! Nice and cool, with hot shower, and everything in the room working well. As of note, we did talk to manager when we were having AC issues, and he said rooms are set up to maintain temperatures of 23–23.5 Celsius. So if you are like me, and like cooler room temperatures, take this into consideration. Also, rooms are definitely on a smaller side compared to other resorts. Room would be very comfortable for 2 adults, maybe 2 adults and a small kid. But with 2 adults and 2 kids, or 3 adults, it is still doable, but definitely gets tight. I was really grateful that resort has an option of bringing rollaway bed to the room, and one was provided to us. We all really liked the beach: wide, clean, much nicer than at Barcelo, Occidental, or Iberostar Paraiso complex. The ladies serving beverages on the beach were amazing: they came very frequently asking for drink requests. This was by far the best beverage service compared to any resorts we’ve been to in Mexico . All staff members we’ve encountered at the resort were very polite, friendly, and helpful. Ricardo and Isaac Ortega were our favorite waiters—just the nicest people ever! While multiple previous reviewers complained that front desk staff was rude, we did not find that at all. Both night clerk checking us in, night manager that we saw when AC stopped working, and daytime manager Victor were super nice and kind to us. Staff at restaurants was definitely superior to both Barcelo and Occidental: very friendly, and constantly bringing us beverages. We had an opportunity to eat at Italian, Oriental, and Mexican restaurants. While service and ambiance were wonderful everywhere, we really did not care for the food at Italian and Oriental, and between 7 of us we pretty much had every item on the menu. So if you are not able to get specialty restaurant reservation, I honestly would not be upset, since

We had an amazing 10 night stay at the hotel. We had a very comfortable twin room with a lovely hammock on the balcony. The food was varied and of excellent quality. We used all 3 a la carte restaurants and enjoyed them all, particularly the oriental. We queued for 30/40 minutes to book the a la cartes which wasn't an issue and we have experienced this system at another 5 star hotel in Mexico. The staff are absolutely amazing, all so friendly and helpful. They work very hard and are a credit to the hotel. The entertainment staff were excellent, particularly the 2 guys who do the aqua gym and the fiesta night. The pools are lovely and the beach is wonderful. There is seaweed but it is cleared on most days. We enjoyed all of the entertainment. The Saturday night fiesta party was so much fun. At weekends numerous local Mexicans stay at the hotel so it does get busy but they very friendly and are mostly families. We had a wonderful time and the trip was amazing value. We would return.
