We ate at the A Propos restaurant and were totally disappointed. The spring salad was drenched in vinegar rather than a balsamic vinagrette, as advertised. We ordered a $35 bottle of chardonnay--and got a half bottle instead. We were so shocked that we didn't respond immediately. Even though the hostess said we were right, they wouldn't adjust the bill. There are so many great restaurants in Westchester that you can afford to skip this monstrosity.

Honestly - the property is beautiful but it is lacking in many other areas. The food is good the portions are extremely small and the menu is lacking. $26 for literally about a cup of pasta. Pasta is so cheap to make - would’ve cost another 50 cents wholesale for the to up the portion size a bit. The restaurant is so quiet it’s uncomfortable. Barely any background music. The staff are not trained at the level you would expect. They were nice people but local folks one smelled like cigarettes, the other was a young girl- they weren’t food and wine experts. The service was more on par with a fast food place not what the hotel was trying to portray. They couldn’t tell us what type of whiskey was available, the pasta was supposed to come with sausage it was missing, the desserts were supposed to come with crème anglaise - there was the tiniest smear barely noticeable on the plate. The menu on their website doesn’t match what was offered. The spa had ants in the sauna and shower. The worst of all was fire alarms went off during my massage. It was my wedding anniversary. They were telling us the fire department was coming and we had to leave. This was only 15 minutes in. They were like goodbye, you will be rescheduled. I said rescheduled? I live nowhere near here and it took alot of planning to get here. When they realized it was a false alarm one of the massage therapist suggested moving the other appointments back a bit to accommodate everyone. I thought that was a great idea. My husband had to get undressed again and it took a little bit to get back into the relaxing mood. Then they didn’t start the massage over / they just wanted to give us the remaining time, after all that even shorting us about ten minutes. To accommodate all of this they offered a $15 credit. Then upped it to $34 which still in my opinion wasn’t acceptable. Another place would’ve comped them. When I sent an email to complain. They still refused to make any adjustments and were like come back again and you can get 20% off. I have no idea when I could get back there again as a working mother of 3. I’m so disgusted. They really need to step their game up between the food and service it just doesn’t add up to the level of service expected in this price range. Begging for them to do the right thing at the spa, after such a disappointing disruption and they insult us. Like comp the massage or at least give 50% off, we of course ripped on the original price as it wasn’t the therapists fault.

This review essentially has to do with the Apropos Restaurant. We like the Abbey Inn & Spa don’t get me wrong. There is nothing intrinsically wrong with it. It is a very pretty place. Lovely views. Nice service ( very enthusiastic), attractive interior etc. Bar nice. Essentially good items to choose from in menu all “ sounding” very good. The rooms are actually nicer than you’d expect and the grounds are pretty and very manicured. BUT,overall- it’s a little “ one and done”, despite the fact that we’ve been there at least 15X. The problem is the restaurant menu and chef. While they try / they just fall short / in comparison to the very high entree prices that they charge ($30-$45 and up+) for food that is subpar. And- 1. Not of the 5* that they purport, 2. Not attractively presented 3. Invariably not hot enough, and must be sent back, or conversely under cooked and needs to be sent back. Or….disgusting as in the pork that I ordered the other night that was large mound of blobby fat on a bone. Horrid. Additionally, 4. A menu that NEVER changes. As I said, we have been there for two overnight stays, at least 5 lunch/ brunch’s, and at least 10x for dinner over the past two years and the menu has simply not changed, not once. Same 5 or 6 entrees. Prepared exactly the same way. Maybe the appetizers yes, ( maybe) but not the overpriced entrees. It is very disappointing because we really like to go there, and bring friends there- always hoping that it will change or get better - but never does. I have never walked out of there with a bill less than $250-$300 and said “ what an macho dinner “ Never. I wish that I could because if so, I would be pleased to return.

Beautiful buildings restored perfectly and blend into the surroundings. Wonder views: our room had a lovely balcony and perfect views of the Hudson River. Restaurant was very good and service was friendly. Local food choices ! A real winner!

My wife and I stayed Easter weekend and loved it. The room was clean, modern and comfortable. My wife loved her facial and I enjoyed relaxing and taking in the view. The art throughout the hotel is local and lovely. And we enjoyed the restaurant very much. It was like having a vacation home ok outside the citycity without the hassle. Staff was great too. We’ll be back!
