The George Inn & Plaine

Beautiful old building, delicious food, super friendly staff, good cocktails, clean room and comfy bed. Breakfast was good quality, locally sourced and hearty. Shower was a little temperamental! We stayed just one night en route to Bristol. Would definitely return.

Went to the George Inn for a celebratory evening dinner on the occasion of our wedding anniversary. We met for the first time there. All aspects of the evening were really excellent. The staff were so engaging, pleasant, polite and cheerful. The meals were top-notch, beautifully presented and prepared. Portions were perfect. The architecture, ambiance and palpable sense of history of the inn are a delight, particularly to me as an ex-history and design technology teacher. Thank you to the staff for an exceptional evening.

Had an amazing stay at the picture perfect old world hotel . From checking been escorted to our wonderful bedroom complete with 4 poster bed , complimentary coffee & real small bottle of milk ‘ to the latest walk in shower ! The meal in the restaurant was 1st class & the staff polite , great efficacy nothing was too much trouble and all done with a smile 😃 will highly recommend this place !

I absolutely loved this pub. I had a Sunday Roast (pork belly) , the portion size was good and tasted amazing. Beautiful décor, quirky and full of character. The staff were very friendly , well presented and attentive. We will definitely be visiting again.

We had such a lovely time for Sunday lunch. We were on a table in front of the fire. We were well looked after by the lovely staff. The atmosphere was great. The food was incredible. Exploring the building inside and out is a must and we also went slightly away from the Inn and walked to the local church. Perfect Sunday. We will definitely be back especially when the weather is nice to sit in the garden to take in the view.

6 of us went to The George for a family lunch on Saturday the 19th. We knew the venue from old but have not been for sometime. As it turned out, it was one of the best Sunday lunches we have ever had and all agreed that the food, setting and particularly the service were fabulous. Special mention to Jack who looked after us. It is rare in this world you served by young people who are interested let alone enthusiastic and Jack was an absolute breath of fresh air. He is a real asset to The George but the main reason for the review was actually the quality of the amazing food which was not only excellent but great value. We also loved the comfort of the room and whole atmosphere of the place. We have already rebooked for Christmas week and will be back I’m sure making the George one of our regular places to visit. Also looking forward to visiting in the Summer to enjoy al fresco lunches with a fabulous view. Well done!

Very warm welcome Beer was great Stunning example of architecture of its times Staff helpful ,friendly and knowledgeable. Nothing was too much trouble Jack in particular was awesome with great customer care Will definitely be going back

Everything about our lunch was excellent. You really get a sense of history when you enter the George. The Caesar salad was the best I have ever tasted and the venison superb. Our server, Ashley, was attentive and friendly, as were all the other staff. We shall definitely be back.

With such a splendid building as the George in which to host their guests, it would be easy for an establishment to neglect the quality of food, and the detail of service provided. This is never the case here. Fine food, excellent surroundings, and high quality service throughout our evening. Will definitely visit again.
