Wanted to try it since it has changed management. Food ok, service slow considering it wasn't busy. The outside needs a good tidy up, used to be more welcoming from the outside now it looks run down with rubbish, too many sign boards and a god awful plastic flower arrangement around the door. Takes two minutes to sweep out the front around the door.

Booked this room solely due to the close proximity of a function we were attending. Arrived to find a cosy, inviting and buzzing bar. We decided to plot up for a drink before going up to the room. We were so comfortable we ordered a pizza and salad, was tasty although could’ve done with a bit more meat ha ha! Tian, the barman, manager and general everything was delightful. The room was a triple although we were only two. Room was light and airy, spotlessly clean with a comfy double, crisp, clean bedding and an extra blanket. Cosy lamps, tea/coffee making facilities. Shower was a bit of a squeeze but worked perfectly well. Room was extremely quiet too. Breakfast was superb and included. Served by a lovely young lady, Shannon, in a beautifully decorated and airy room. Unlimited tea, coffee and juices. There were a number of walk ins too, not just hotel guests and at under £10 for a full English including beverage, an absolute bargain. I would return here in a heartbeat and would advise anyone wanting a central base a 2 minute walk from the bus station to definitely stay here. We will return! Thank you

This quaint little hotel situated in the heart of Newport is ideally located for transport links to the whole of the island, being a 5 minute walk to the bus station. Rooms very clean and beds very comfortable. Very quiet considering its in the middle of a town. Breakfast is excellent. Highly recommend Papa P's which is part of the hotel, for pizza. On site is pub is lovely and homely. Staff very helpful All in all highly recommend.

Went for a first-time lunch visit since The Wheatsheaf had re-opened and was disappointed. Lovely lady behind the bar but it took ages for anyone to see me waiting to order. When a guy came over his demeanour was not of someone who was happy to serve. I believe he greeted me with ‘Yes?’ I should have answered ‘No’ and walked out but my companion was very hungry so I placed our order (simple pub food, what we were looking for)and waited. And waited. And waited. For nearly 40 minutes. It was like the Marie Celeste, I had to hunt for someone (Mr I Don’t Want To Be Here) to see if we had much longer to wait. There was only one other table of 4 people being served, so it was hardly busy. The food arrived and was adequate rather than really enjoyable. I went to pay but when given the bill had to point out that our drinks hadn’t been charged for (I might be having a moan but I am honest - there was no appreciation for my honesty or saving his neck!) Not tipping never sits right with me but I felt completely comfortable about not tipping Mr I Don’t Want To Be Here - a smile would have done it. Sadly, we won’t be going back or recommending. I say ‘sadly’ as it’s a lovely ancient pub and has always been so much part of the history of Newport. It just seems a slightly scruffy old boozer now ☹️

My family say I am hard to please, however I can honestly say we had the best Sunday roast here in a long time! Tender roast beef, home made Yorkshire pudding, cheesy leeks and a selection of delicious fresh vegetables. Not to mention the super tasty gravy. Well done wheatsheaf, definitely worth a visit.

We enjoyed a family meal here and it was one of the best pub roasts I've had in a long time. We were a party of 8, the meals service and atmosphere were of a very good standard. Please ignore any negative reviews under old management and give this place a try you won't be disappointed.

We have never been to the Isle of Wight before, and although we were on the island to have a party and say goodbye to a friend we couldn’t have picked a better place to stay. The room was perfect for us and our 6 year old, she was very happy that she had her own room and was the guardian of the bathroom. The food was fantastic, it’s worth going for the full English breakfast alone. It’s in a great location, right in the centre of town. Can’t recommend it enough.
