Something very special about this hotel. Stayed for two nights and was blessed with the most perfect autumnal sunshine and at that perfect time of leafs changing colour which made my morning and twilight walks or the more magical. I was lucky enough to get a fabulous seat for breakfast by a roaring open fire which was attended too to keep the fire alive. The lounge was my favourite spot again with an open fire and comfy kick back sofas. My bedroom had a view of the river and the bedding was great quality and certainly invited you to have little reason to get up early. Good powerful shower, large fluffy towels with lovely generous products was a really nice touch. Make sure you use the spa as it adds a lovely indulgent element to your stay. Team very accommodating and had great knowledge of the local area

We are in the restaurant and the hot beef chabatta sandwich was delicious and the warm fruit scone with jam & cream was also extremely tasty. Coffee was served in a lovely Swan Hotel cup. We sat by the fire & really enjoyed our experience & food. A very special thanks to Poppy who was waiting on-she was so lovely, organised and efficient; nothing was too much trouble for her. She is an asset to your staff team with her amazing customer service & smiles as this can often rare in this day and age!

We overall had a nice time however we were immediately disappointed upon entering our room. The decor and furnishings are very tired in the upstairs rooms - dirty wallpaper, carpets, very dated furniture and badly chipping paint and mould in the bathroom. The downstairs communal areas of the hotel - main reception area, spa reception and restaurants are all beautiful as are the downstairs guest rooms, however this standard seems to be a front for the guest rooms upstairs that haven’t been touched in some time and need refurbishing. The spa felt overcrowded and there appeared to be no indoor seating available - perhaps when people have vacated and left their towels on beds that are no longer in use the staff could removes them to free up seating? I got in the main pool and immediately got out again when I noticed a lot of bubbly scum floating on top. I also think hot drinks should be available inside the spa rather than having to leave in you robe and stand in the car in the reception area where hotel guests are coming in and out of. The breakfast selection is fantastic and the vegetarian breakfast was lovely however our evening meal was a disappointment - the veggie antipasti seemed to be a selection of vegetables poured from jars of oil and the truffle ravioli was very dry as if it had been sat under a heat lamp for some time. The food is very expensive for vegetarian options. We had also nearly finished our starters by the time our drinks arrived and this pattern continued with drinks taking up to 10 minutes. Perhaps there should be a dedicated bartender for the restaurant as the pub was very busy. There is so much potential for this to be a 5 star hotel however the attention to detail and standards in certain areas are just not at the level. I had always wanted to stay at The Swan and thought this trip for our wedding anniversary would be a good opportunity, however we left feeling disappointed.

This hotel is absolutely beautiful. It is so picturesque and offers everything that you want for a peaceful Lake District visit. The staff are so attentive and will respond to your every wish. Roaring fires, lovely food and a fabulous spa with lots of space to relax in bubbly waters. The new addition of a bothy complete with roaring fire to relax by whilst lying on comfy day beds is wonderful. Only short drive from Windermere and the beautiful Bowness too. This is always our hotel of choice when visiting the lakes.

9 out of 10 foods was excellent but service was a little slow (staff were great but maybe just not enough of them) hotel room was a little tired - no lamp hard to see when getting ready as no lights over the dressing table. Air con not working and a de humidifier in the room (not a great look) spa was gorgeous, massage amazing

Great set up don't like the fact dogs can stay but rooms were separated and you wouldn't know as in couldn't smell them. Spa facilities are nice ,clean and treatments are very professional, high quality treatment beds /rooms ect .Restaurant was run by lovely staff Josh Jill hard working ,there was a wedding in the hotel which made breakfast very slow to leave the kitchen on that day , but apart from that this is a lovely place to stay right by the river.

Lovely cozy room, comfy bed, clean and tidy apart from stains on carpet and a nice garden view. Also the shower was amazing as well as the toiletries in the room, they smell amazing. Spa facilities were fabulous, however the price of Prosecco was £17 for 2 125ml glasses?! Meal was gorgeous couldn’t fault it, however extremely expensive if you don’t have this in your package. mini bar in room was also expensive. Our waiter was young lad, he went above and beyond to make sure my partner had a lovely time for his birthday. All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Overall, I think we will 100% visit again. Thanks so much! Xx

Been to this hotel for years, always rated it as a great place by windermere. As a gift I used a £125 gift voucher for the twilight spa on a Sunday in October. I was supposed to use it separately with person I went with use there but it was automatically used for both of us with £70 remaining. The spa itself was fine, couldn’t get a drink in there had to chance someone down outside spa not as tidy as I remembered it to be so was not the best but still had a nice time. We spoke to people who had a poor experience staying at the hotel, waiting too long for a low standard dinner. I got the impression the hotel isn’t up to standard anymore as it was one I used to highly recommend. I felt embarrassed that I brought someone with me to the spa afternoon there. On the way out I tried to explain I would return to use rest of the voucher. This simple question started a runaround. The first staff member didn't know the answer. I asked a few more people and finally sat down at the front desk, but still, no one could give me a straight answer! I got vague advice, like I should be able to use the rest of the credit. I would have stayed for dinner to use the credit that night. They told me to write my number on their paper and promised, point-blank, that someone would call me, I assumed this was likely to be able to be used on return as the digital voucher I had didn’t have any terms wrote to figure out the re-use policy for the credit. Nobody called. Nobody reached out. Nothing. I was left relying on a staff member's guess and ended up missing out on using the considerable credit left on the voucher, probably couldn't be bothered to call back like they promised. I contacted the hotel as rebooking and basically told I should have used all at the time explained that I tried my best with staff to confirm if I could use again and told nope. huge let down on there part as the voucher was purchased at there hotel.

Just checked out of the Swan Hotel after spending a night for my birthday with my husband. There were positives and negatives to our stay. The hotel is beautiful and in an amazing location. The main downside is that the downstairs areas ie reception, pub area, restaurant and little snugs are freezing cold. People were literally sat around in coats even while eating in the restaurant! A few log burners lit but no heating anywhere. The main gas burner wasn’t on in the Lakeside Restaurant and we were advised it was broken. This spoiled our evening meal as we were freezing. The food was very nice but we felt very overpriced. My husband had a pre dinner drink of Pinot Grigio but when we ordered a bottle with our meal they had run out! I was very touched though with my little birthday desert. We stayed in a River view room which was lovely, warm, comfortable, hot shower, plenty of clean towels, robes and slippers. Items in the fridge a lovely touch. We did notice however that the shower screen/seal was dirty. We had access to the spa in the afternoon. We did feel a little disappointed with the facilities. Not a good start as our wrist bands weren’t working on the lockers so had to seek help. The pool wasn’t very warm and covered in a frothy scum which wasn’t very inviting. I had to walk outside with bare feet as I was told they no longer provided slippers but was told at reception they did! My massage was however amazing and left me feeling very relaxed. The staff though in all areas were a credit to the hotel. Nothing too much trouble and very polite. I could hear people complaining to them a lot and they dealt with it very professionally. I hope the management can sort out these issues as it’s such a shame we can’t give 5 stars.
