Courtyard New Bern

We paid $1,242.50 for a four night stay. We were told we’d get a “ room refresh” after two days. It never happened. On day two, the housekeeper asked me if we needed anything. I said that two fresh bath towels would be nice. The towels never came. At the end of the day, I went to the front desk and got towels myself and told the person at the front desk we hadn’t had a room refresh. I was told that this would be reported. Over our stay, no one ever brought fresh towels, took away dirty towels, provided clean glasses, or emptied the trash. At $1,242.50 for only four nights, I expect better service. The bathroom is very poorly designed, with a “fancy” rack for clean towels but no good place for wet bath towels. The only rack for bath towels has them hanging on the toilet. Gross! The fitted sheets don’t stay on the bed. We were there for one of the busiest weekends of the year, so why did two housekeepers have so much leisure time that two of them took up two of the three lounge chairs in the lobby?

We chose to stay at the Marriott in New Bern for a special occasion — one of our guests was celebrating a birthday — and as Bonvoy members, we were told we were being considered for a complimentary upgrade, pending availability. However, it wasn’t until after we checked in and got to the room that we realized we had not received the upgrade — the room had no balcony or view, which is what we had been told to expect. I called the front desk to inquire, and the staff member (I believe her name was Jen) stated we could still receive the upgrade if we wanted to switch rooms at that point. By then, we were already unpacked and settled in. It was frustrating that the upgrade wasn’t simply assigned at check-in, especially since the rooms were available and we were told to expect it. To make matters worse, she reassured me that she “wouldn’t charge us” for the upgrade — even though it was supposed to be complimentary due to our Bonvoy membership and the birthday in our party. This was not something that should have ever been considered a charge. I left a message for the manager (whose name I was told is Reggie) with another staff member, Anna, who promised to give it to him as soon as he arrived. I included both my email address and phone number in the note, but I never received any response or follow-up of any kind. We were looking forward to a special, celebratory experience. A simple gesture that had been promised could have made our stay feel thoughtful and valued. Instead, it felt like we were overlooked. “beautiful view” turned out to be of the parking lot. Very disappointed in how this was handled.

We enjoyed our stay at the Courtyard by Marriott in New Bern and booked a king room with balcony. The views were very nice. The room itself was large but the AC was leaking and the carpet was wet in the room and leaked onto the patio outside. The AC was not very cold either but kept the room decent. The room itself was overall clean and nice. The staff were very accommodating and nice during check in and out making the process easy.

I booked this place hoping for a *beary* relaxing getaway, but instead I got a real grizzly experience. The moment I walked in, I was hit with a musty stench trying (and failing) to hibernate under layers of synthetic fragrance. It didn’t mask the smell—it just made my nose bear arms. The bathroom was *a total bear trap*. Hair in the shower, grime in the corners—definitely not the den I was expecting to freshen up in. I bear-ly made it through. As for the bed? Let’s just say I had a *fitted-sheet fiasco*. The sheets were not just inside out (talk about polar opposites of care), but the fitted sheet kept slipping off, baring the mattress every time I rolled over. Cozy? Not by a fur stretch. Honestly, I expected a bit more polish and care, but this stay left me clawing for comfort. Would I return? Not in a million bear hibernation cycles.

We love this location on the river and so close to the Sound. Always pleasant staff and clean facility, a true low stress vacay

We stayed here as part of a large group in town for a wedding. Everyone in the group had a positive experience. The property is well maintained and clean. The rooms were comfortable and spacious. It’s difficult to beat the location on the water and an easy walk to the historic downtown area. There is plenty of parking. The bistro restaurant performed to the expectations of everyone. I can’t say enough good things about the wonderful staff under the management of Reg Poteat, the longtime GM. When we return to New Bern, this will be our choice of hotels without question.
