Courtyard New Bern

We stay here in the fall every year. The water views are worth it at this hotel. The location is great as you can walk to amazing restaurants in the downtown area and don't have to get into your car. We did have an issue with our room, the AC was leaking. We didn't want to move so they gave us fans to dry the carpet and were very responsive to the issue. The hotel did have a damper smell to it this year but it looked like maintenance we being done in several areas. So hope this will improve next year as we look forward to staying there again. Request to hotel - please put in more hooks and places to hang wet coats and towels. My photos show the 'towel' areas' they are not adequate for a bath towel. A row of hooks by the door and a few more in the bathroom would be very welcomed.

We chose to stay at the Marriott in New Bern for a special occasion — one of our guests was celebrating a birthday — and as Bonvoy members, we were told we were being considered for a complimentary upgrade, pending availability. However, it wasn’t until after we checked in and got to the room that we realized we had not received the upgrade — the room had no balcony or view, which is what we had been told to expect. I called the front desk to inquire, and the staff member (I believe her name was Jen) stated we could still receive the upgrade if we wanted to switch rooms at that point. By then, we were already unpacked and settled in. It was frustrating that the upgrade wasn’t simply assigned at check-in, especially since the rooms were available and we were told to expect it. To make matters worse, she reassured me that she “wouldn’t charge us” for the upgrade — even though it was supposed to be complimentary due to our Bonvoy membership and the birthday in our party. This was not something that should have ever been considered a charge. I left a message for the manager (whose name I was told is Reggie) with another staff member, Anna, who promised to give it to him as soon as he arrived. I included both my email address and phone number in the note, but I never received any response or follow-up of any kind. We were looking forward to a special, celebratory experience. A simple gesture that had been promised could have made our stay feel thoughtful and valued. Instead, it felt like we were overlooked. “beautiful view” turned out to be of the parking lot. Very disappointed in how this was handled.

Pretty and convenient location; comfortable stay. Great view of the river from the room. Convenient to restaurants and shops; in a beautiful historic district.

Great location. Hotel did not offer any complimentary beverages except water. No coffee or tea. The rooms were extremely musty smelling and the bathroom was not as clean as i would prefer, some mildew growing in the grout, paint peeling from walls, baseboards dirty

I booked this place hoping for a *beary* relaxing getaway, but instead I got a real grizzly experience. The moment I walked in, I was hit with a musty stench trying (and failing) to hibernate under layers of synthetic fragrance. It didn’t mask the smell—it just made my nose bear arms. The bathroom was *a total bear trap*. Hair in the shower, grime in the corners—definitely not the den I was expecting to freshen up in. I bear-ly made it through. As for the bed? Let’s just say I had a *fitted-sheet fiasco*. The sheets were not just inside out (talk about polar opposites of care), but the fitted sheet kept slipping off, baring the mattress every time I rolled over. Cozy? Not by a fur stretch. Honestly, I expected a bit more polish and care, but this stay left me clawing for comfort. Would I return? Not in a million bear hibernation cycles.

So disappointing! Wonderful location, balcony with water views and lovely bed linens. Dirty room!!! Bathroom floor very dirty by toilet…yuck. Frank dirt on ottoman and sofa making them unusable. Shower liner didn’t reach tub, so water got on floor, only one bath mat and no refreshed linens, except by request and then available only by pickup at desk.
