What we liked: The 12 kilometer distance to the rest of the world, the peace and quiet in the luxurious chalets (Orion 3 for us), star gazing and nature drive, the archaeological field, the extremely friendly team and the unusually beautiful dining room and lounge with its library. What was not so good, despite other reviews: the food.

We have always wanted to visit Sutherland to view the night skies, and finding Rogge Cloof was a beautiful cherry on the top. The two nights that we spent there were rejuvenating, relaxing, and very special. Accommodation in Cedar Lodge suite was fantastic, and the staff were helpful and really friendly. Star-gazing was the special treat, and the experience at Rogge Cloof was as good as the night at the Sutherland Observatory, with far fewer people.

Versteckt in den Weiten der Grossen Karoo, wunderschön angelegtes Feriendorf mit freundlichem Service und tollem Essen. Wir haben in der Leopard Suite übernachtet und wohl mal wieder zwei der kälteren Nächte (3 Grad) im Dezember erwischt. Die Suite ist geräumig und wird mit Solar betrieben. Somit gibt es kein Fön und keine Heizdecken. Der Kamin im Zimmer spendet die nötige Wärme und das grosse bequeme warme Bett haben ebenfalls geholfen. Das gesetzte Menü am Abend war hervorragend gekocht und der eigene Wein vom Resort war würzig und hat wunderbar gepasst. Es ist schon erstaunlich wie auf solch einer Höhe und harten Bedingungen der Wein trotzdem wachsen und schmecken kann. Wir haben dort übernachtet weil wir uns das SALT-Teleskop angesehen haben, doch die kleine und feine Sternguckertour am Abend im Resort war jedoch viel schöner und eindrücklicher. Wer also Mond, Saturn und Venus mal aus der "Nähe" sehen will, sowie blaue und gelbe Sterne und deren Unterschied wissen möchte, sollte auf alle Fälle den Abend so verbringen. Wir sind rundherum zu frieden gewesen und waren auf Grund der Corona Situation weit und breit die einzigsten "ausländischen" Touristen ....

What a gem… The accommodation is beautiful. The place offers a set menu and very course was exceptional. After dinner we did some stargazing to the beautiful night sky; after a little presentation we got to observe some of the stars and planets through the onsite telescope. This place is so worth a visit.

We decided to go to Rogge Cloof for my wife's 60th birthday, and had a fantastic time. The field guides and hosts were super friendly and professional. We learned a lot about cheetahs and fossils during our field trips. Oh, and a nice surprise for my wife from the kitchen!

Our stay at Rogge Cloof was absolutely wonderful - from the welcoming, to our cottage, the yummy dinner at the Rittersaal, the walks on the farm and the views. Thank you for an awesome weekend!

This was our second visit to Rogge Cloof as a school group and our learners enjoyed their stay as much as the group from last year. The staff are excellent and made us feel welcome. The place is neat and in excellent condition. Truely a home away from home.
