Aloft Mountain View

For a Marriott branded hotel this was very disappointing. Although the staff were very nice, the overall condition of the hotel was poor. The pool was out of service and had construction tape surrounding it, with a deck chair in the pool. At reception there was a speaker playing loud music as you walked in. A previous reviewer also noted this. The room felt like a sparsely equipped dorm room. There was one piece of abstract art on the walls. The floor was linoleum-style, with no rug or carpeting. The seat at the work area was an uncomfortable plastic chair. The heating/air conditioning unit was old style, a beneath the window setup you see in motels, and quite noisy. A small table beside the chair in the room was quite worn and scratched. The furniture felt cheap. The floor pan in the shower had a poorly repaired crack. The walls in the corridor leading to the room were heavily scratched and in need of new paint or wallpaper. Chipped paint was evident around the elevators. Staff were painting some of this while I stayed, but I got the sense this was being done very slowly by a small group of staff, as opposed to bringing in a professional painting crew to do the job efficiently. Food offerings were poor. $17 bought a breakfast muffin and a cup of coffee. The same thing could be bought at a nearby McDonald’s for $12. Strangely, pillows were folded in half and then stuffed into a pillowcase. This made them very hard. I figured out that you could unfold them and then use the full size of the pillowcase to make them soft. Given that the room rate was $360/night (including taxes), I would say there are better options available in the area.

Best location in Mountain View/Sunnyvale. Clean rooms with nice layout. Front desk staff are prompt, helpful and attentive. Plenty of parking. I have stayed at this location about 4-5 times over the last year. Will stay again on my next trip.
