This establishment has changed from a very nice bed-and-breakfast to simple lodging operated like an Airbnb. There are some restaurants in the area, but be prepared to drive a few miles for a good breakfast. I am rather disappointed in the change, but it is still a great place to stay for a few nights. It is a small and quiet facility with about 10 rooms. Those in the boathouse have the best views of the wildlife. The boathouse is right out on the slough, where you can sit and watch the seabirds and otters at play. Each room is decorated in some nautical theme. Sail Away and Pelican Beach are on the second floor and offer the best views of the slough. These two have deep soaking tubs and fireplaces for a romantic stay. Be prepared to climb into bed with steps as Pelican Beach is not well-suited for anyone with mobility issues. As I remember from past visits, Sail Away has a similar climb into bed. Our stay this time was in Pelican Beach. We saw Herons, Egrets, Cormorants, and otters from the seating area by the floor-to-ceiling windows. If you are expecting to have solid internet access, forget it. The WIFI is minimal at best, and streaming anything on the television is not possible. The bottom line is this is a nice qiet place to get away from the rush for a few days.

Loved our stay here at th Captain’s Inn. Lots of history and attention to details in every corner. Nice communal spaces to eat and hang out, beautiful setting. We saw a barn owl, great blue heron, harbor seal, etc etc just watching. Rooms are perfectly clean and the staff and managers willing to go the extra mile. This property includes an old building and a newer block of room closer to the river. Moss Landing is a nice escape from the tourist throngs elsewhere and if you are living on microwaveable food, you will be in heaven.

Had a wonderful time at the Captain’s Inn in Moss Landing. What a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of everyday living. We chose the Hideaway room with a private patio. Our accommodations were pleasant and comfortable with everything we needed including a full kitchen. In the evening we enjoyed our wine on the deck with a multitude of birds flying around. Our favorite were the barn owls. No getaway would be complete without warm and friendly hosts! We will definitely go there again.

This hotel is a surprise. Simple appearing on the outside, our room was a hidden gem on the inside. We stayed in one of the rooms facing the slough, and it was wonderful. We had a beautiful view of the bird life flying back and forth, various critters appearing and and marine life in the water. The room was clean, compact and well appointed. The bed comfortable, shower excellent and our space was quiet. The highlight is the amazing view. We could have spent all day sipping wine, reading good books and taking in the sights from our windows. Highly recommend. Robin

We love Captain’s Inn at Moss Landing. It’s immaculately clean and so peaceful. We love the riverfront rooms where we can watch lots of wildlife in the quiet mornings. We also love the convenience of having a kitchen in the property where we can go in & out and use the hotel’s plates/cups/utensils. We love our short walks to the beach or the marina.

Get the upstairs room!!
We stayed 3 nights in the suite Hide Away.
There was repeated notes about quiet time and this was where people can relax. We are light sleepers and were looking forward to the peace and quit.
The first night we didn’t get any sleep due to the upstairs people walking around, getting up to use the bathroom, dropping things.
Housekeeping is on the other side of the bedroom wall. We almost canceled out trip, but decided to give it another try. Thank goodness no one was upstairs the rest of our stay and housekeeping wasn't working late into the night.
It was quite peaceful, and exactly what we needed. The area is very unique and tranquil.
We would definitely stay there again, all of the rooms are interesting and I think the boathouse rooms would be my next choice.

Very nice property, with a good-sized common area. Great views of the coastal dunes and sunset. A bit strange to need to provide a cc# by phone at check-in to obtain the door access code.

We had a great dinner just down the street at the Sea Harvest with family . It was a beautiful evening out so we shared a bottle of wine enjoying the sunset on the property out back . The whole property and Sheba the owner was very inviting and comfortable to be around , we had a wonderful time and will definitely stay again.

We come to the Captains Inn every July for the antique street fair. We have stayed in the historical house, dock holiday and the boat house. Have loved all of them. If you get a chance to stay here you should. The innkeeper is very sweet and always helpful. Looking forward to next year already
