I recently spent one night at Hotel Riviera in Moss on a business trip to Norway 🇳🇴 and I liked the place a lot. What could have been another standard business hotel turned into a welcoming, comfortable and somehow charming place. The merit goes primarily to the decoration. Light coloured walls, carpets and furniture, design furniture, stylish decoration artefacts both in the rooms and in the common areas and accessories such as the hotel-branded flip flops give a warm and welcoming touch to the place. Without being very spacious my room was relatively large and had a small balcony with two armchairs looking over the Oslo Fjord and Jeløy Island. The room was equipped with a Nespresso type coffee machine, which is a nice feature. The Internet connection was very good. However, the noise from the trains was an issue as there was significant traffic since the early hours of the day. The breakfast was good with fresh fruits, various bread options, pastries, eggs, omelets, and yogurts. However, the fruit juice selection was limited to one option which was clearly not enough. As other restaurants in Moss were closed I had dinner at the hotel restaurant. The experience was disappointing. Mainly basic food such as pizzas, hamburgers and pasta, neither grilled fish nor vegetables. That's clearly the hotel's main downside, which should be addressed. Nevertheless, despite this point I have no hesitation to recommend Hotel Riviera for a stay in Moss.

When we arrived we were told that the pool in the spa was cold because of a problem with the heating. It was therefore not possible to use it. The hotel had been aware of the problem since the morning so they could hve called their guests and given them a chance to cancel their stay. People come to this hotel because of the wellness area, so of I had known it wasnt possible to use it I would of course have booked somewhere else. The staff at the reception are very unpleasent and were not apologetic about the situasion at all. The rooms are ok, but cleaning is lacking specially the balkony wich was dirty. The table had not gotten a wipe down in forever. Flimsy, annoying doors in the bedroom.

Tldr: Hotel is underwhelming. It's a new hotel that seems rushed, and some areas not thought through. Staff is...meh in multiple ways. 1. The room We had the suite for 3 days for our wedding, which looks pretty, is clean and in general very nice. - bed is very soft, too soft for my liking, and duvet super hot. To each their own. - Black out curtains work, however, they haven't blocked the edges around rendering them almost useless and too bright in the morning. Compared to the cheaper room which actually work. - bathroom didn't have a towel holder - AC seemed weak and he room was never chill. Again compared to the other rooms which got as cold as you wanted. 2. The "spa" - small and nice in general, decent pool and a few saunas covering what you need. Also a decent small gym - no clock on the outdoor part of the pool - outdoor closed all the time (in summer seems odd to me) - sold out of most of their options of alcohol pretty much all the time 3. Staff - no one seems to enjoy their job, or wanting to be there. No smiles or hellos in the hallway - Family bought us a gift from the hotel and told the staff to put it in our room for when we first got there, but they forgot and we had to ask twice to get it. - asked for flowers on the bed which they said they were going to do for when we got home on our wedding night which wasn't done. 4 restaurant Seems nice, food tasted good, however servers seems uneducated about the menu. Offering 4 different fish or seafood dishes to a vegetarian friend.( It specifically says to ask them about vegan/vegetarian food) 5. Breakfast Pretty decent, kind of small area but it has its vibe

Great service and hotel, we likes the food top pool a lot. But our dinner experience was horrible. Waited 45 min for our starters and another 45 min for our mail course. And on top of that the service was so bad from our waiter.

Check-in was slow. Parking difficult. Beach nice and pool area nice - but too small and rather crowdy.

We arrived before check-in time, but the room was guaranteed to be ready at 3 p.m. We asked about parking and received no friendly response. We decided to eat something at the brasserie while we waited. I asked if they could heat up some baby food, and the waiter said yes without hesitation. We finished lunch around 3:30 p.m. and went to check in, but it wasn't possible yet. We only managed to do so at 4:30 p.m. That night, we went to dinner. There weren't many people, and we were seated at a drafty table. I asked a staff member if it was possible to move, and he promptly said yes. I later noticed that Hvormester didn't like it and she told him. We continued, and I asked to heat up the baby food. An a girl said they didn't have a microwave. I replied that they heated it at lunch. She went around and around, saying we could put it under the lamp. I said okay, but I had to take it out of the plastic box, which surprised her. She said she'd bring a plate for us to put on. The situation was already quite awkward. She put it under the lamp for 30 seconds, came back with the food, and said that it was the maximum she could manage. because we saw one of the chefs one pass didn't want it there. I told her to call the hvormester/F&B manager Erika which made the situation worse. She said they didn't have a microwave. I replied that they heated at lunch. She continued to argue that she didn't know how they did it. We replied just heat in one pan. And she said it would take half an hour. Shely reluctantly took the food to a chef who threw it on the plate. My husband saw it and got up from the table and told him that wasn't the way to treat the food. Meanwhile, another chef (Azis) was already taking out a pan to heat it, which took less than a minute. My husband went to get it. With no desire to continue our meal, we finished and were forgotten for more than 40 minutes, until the guy (Noah) who had moved us to another table asked us if everything was okay, we said no, he expressed regret over the whole situation, and tried to smooth things over. A hotel with potential but with terrible staff, especially the leaders. We will not return and even recommend it.

This hotel is a very contradicting experience for me as a traveler. You will often times feel like you are in a luxury resort and at times feel like you are at a roadside motel. Positives: 1. The room and physical amenities are very clean and new. 2. The room design is very modern and practical. 3. The room is very comfortable with adjustable temperature control and blackout curtains to make sure every night is restful. Negatives: 1. No laundry service: There is no on-site laundry service. This usually is not a big deal, but considering the location of the hotel and how small Moss is as a town, it's actually very difficult to find laundromat services anywhere else. 2. No free parking: Considering the location of the hotel, and how far removed from public transportation this place is, driving is the predominant mode of transportation for most guests. It makes very little sense to not offer parking as part of the hotel room package. Even paid parking is often full on weekends so parking will be a problem on busy summer weekends. 3. Lounge & collaborative space: There is very little collaborative space for people to hang out for leisure or work together for business. The hotel offers conferences room that you can book for 4000 NOK for the day but realistically, my party would just like a place to hang out that isn't the lobby. 4. Breakfast selection: The variety at breakfast is disappointing, for a hotel of this class and price point. 5. Front desk staffing: The front desk should always be staffed, especially when you have guests yet to arrive on the books. My party arrived at 10PM, and had to wait 30 minutes with no one at the front desk to get us checked in. The same also happened at 5AM when I am trying to check out.

Don't get me wrong, I don'¨t know how the food in the restaurant was, as we left the place after beeing ignored and forgotten. The problem was the staff, not the chief. The hotel is wonderful. We had å balcony towards the beach and the harbour. It was great. TRhe beds are for kings og queens. The room was very nice. The spa on the rooftop was the greatest. I will definitly come back, but I will not try the restaurant Bon Vivant again.
