Riu Reggae - Adults Only - All Inclusive

I visited RIU Reggae in Montego Bay for my birthday, it was horrible and I would never stay at any RIU location. I arrived at 3 pm and my room was not ready. My first night there I itched and scratched all night thinking it was from mosquitoes. It wasn’t until I saw a bed bug crawling on the pillow that I realized it wasn’t mosquitoes. When I pulled back the sheets there were more bed bugs. I called the front desk and was told house keeping will be sent. I immediately packed my bags and went to the front desk. I had to wait hours for a new room. My clothing had to be washed and dried, I literally was walking around the hotel in my pajamas. When did receive my clothes back, they were still wet. I did not get my clothing back until after 10 pm. I could not enjoy and festivities for the day. I spoke to the front desk manager, the hotel manager was too busy dancing to come and speak to me. I reached out to the general manager and filed a complaint. All I received was apologies and silly accommodations like decorating my room or making a reservation to one of their restaurants. That was not sufficient enough for getting bit up all night, my arm was red and swollen and I felt stranded and helpless in another country.

Arrival to Jamaica We left from the Ottawa (YOW) airport on Sunday and arrived in Montego Bay on Sunday around 4:00 pm. We breezed through customs/security in less than 20 minutes as it was not busy. I have heard of the airport being a nightmare when busy, so thankful that it wasn’t as we didn’t get the Club Mobay. By the time we got to our bus, 3 separate people had asked us to buy ****… so it truly is that easy to get it. No one bugged us about carrying our bags or if we needed a taxi. That was a nice change from being to Cuba and DR where they will snatch your luggage from your hand and than expect a tip. You immediately get that laid back vibe from everyone. Transport to Resort We went through Sunwing so we took the big tour bus. We left the airport once everyone got on and we were the first stop at Riu Reggae. It was less than a 10-minute ride from the airport to the resort. Arrival at Resort We arrived at the resort around 4:45 pm. Our room was ready and check in was very fast. We were a group of 5 people with 3 different rooms, and they made sure we were all on the same floor and close to each other. Room Review We got a standard room with garden view and a king size bed. The room is underwhelming as we expected. No different than a hotel room back home but with a balcony. The room had the typical hotel complimentary items, a safe, iron, blow dryer, robes, etc. The mini fridge had Coke, Sprite, Fanta, water, and beer. Only extra feature we had was your own bar with Vodka, Rum, Gin, and Whiskey. The blackout curtains were on point. Perfect to make room completely dark for a late afternoon nap. The air conditioner worked very well, and the humidity wasn't almost non-existent. None of our clothes or sheets felt wet/sticky. Cons I would point out are; - Our mirror had quite a bit of rust on the edges. Very noticeable and just not appealing. - If you are taking a shower later in the evening, the water will only be lukewarm. I am sure because everyone is showering and getting ready for dinner/night out at the same time. - You do hear the planes very faintly and hear people through your door. The walls are thick, but the door lets almost every sound through. - There are no ash trays on the balconies as you aren't supposed to smoke on them. Even though everyone does. - The bed is a little firm and pillow aren't anything special. When I went to bed the first night, I was very surprised to only see a flat sheet as the blanket. I thought they forgot the blanket and checked with our friends what they had. You just get a blue fleece blanket to sleep with that is in the closet. As a person who sleeps with a weighted blanket, it was a bit disappointing. - When you open your balcony door the air conditioning turns off. - The rooms are economical friendly with your key card that you slide into the slot on the wall to turn the power on. We left our extra key card in the whole time and our maid took it the second last day. - You request your mini

Stayed at Riu Reggae for a week in April over Easter. Resort was very clean, food was amazing and the people were great. Shout out to bartenders Michelle and Delroy. Our server at the steakhouse Jaheim and our server at breakfast and lunch Zahaire, who always remembered where we liked to sit and what we liked to drink. Room was very clean and comfortable. Loved the mini bar with the actual bar bottle dispenser. Also made a request on the first day to not have sugar free Coke as I’m allergic and they fixed it immediately. Ok so now the not so great depending on how you like your vacations. I went in knowing it was a louder more “party” location. After researching I felt that there was going to be enough areas that were quieter that we could relax and read. This was not the case. It was loud music, yelling & drunk people from the time you got up to the time you went to bed (and beyond). The “quiet” pool is less busy yes, but too close to the party pool and you cannot even have a conversation it’s so loud. Also encountered exuberant guests in the buffet who were so loud you didn’t want to eat there as you couldn’t even think. My biggest complaint was I didn’t sleep through the night once in 7 days as people were screaming in the halls all night long. Also I get it’s Jamaica but the smell of pot is overwhelming at this resort no matter where you are. This all said, I would recommend this resort to a younger crowd that doesn’t need sleep or relaxation.

We could not have asked for a better experience at the Riu Reggae. The staff work very hard to keep everything clean from your room to the common areas. Any mess we saw was from inconsiderate guests. We chose to eat at the buffet only as there was always plenty to choose from. The entertainment team is out of this world AMAZING. I won't spoil it.. check them out yourself. The resort overall is in my opinion suitable for everyone. If you want to party, you can. If you want to just chill, you can. We stayed in a garden view room (1179) which was quiet yet not too far from anything.

On 9/25 I booked a 3 night stay starting via ******* the next day (9/26). That morning at 6am I woke up and was sick. I called ******* to see if I could cancel. They told me the hotel lobby was closed and they were going to follow up. The entire time that my reservation was booked I got no answer back - ******* said a refund should be about 10 days. Well it wasn't until 9 days later I found out my reservation was not refundable. The hotel lied about communicating with *******. I have copies of emails ******* sent the hotel - that the hotel claims were never sent. I ultimately got my money back from travel protection, however I feel this company has committed wire fraud. I tried to seek an answer from them about a product I had paid for. They seemingly deliberately delayed the conversation so they could keep my money and not provide a product. On top of that the Riu customer support system is an endless vortex of no help and being answered with vague lies. The customer support I received from both ******* and Riu has burnt their bridges with me. I will never use either again - and I encourage everyone to avoid this hotel and all Riu's if this is how they treat guests.
