The Swan Inn

A lovely stay at The Swan! The bed was so comfy and the breakfast was delicious. We will definitely be back.

I can’t really call this place a hidden gem as it is literally in the middle of old Midhurst but a gem it is, hidden or not. We’ve been here 4 times in as many weeks - starting with a lunchtime drink, followed by Sunday lunch, a date night and today a quick supper - the service has never faltered and nor has the food. This historic pub (complete with wonky floors) has been eclectically decorated and is filled with regulars, locals and visitors alike. The service is superb - very friendly, very knowledgeable and very efficient. Whilst I’ve no issue with part-time student staff, service can sometimes feel a little detached elsewhere; not so here. At The Swan, every member of the team genuinely seems to care, and that makes all the difference. The food …. I want to swear here (in a good way) but suspect Trip Advisor will ban my post if I do! The Sunday roast was full of flavour, you could cut the beef with a spoon and it all came with lots of fresh vegetables. If I’m being pedantic, perhaps there could have been more meat on the plate but it certainly wasn’t lacking in anyway. One thing I do have to mention is the steak with chimichurri sauce - wow! We both said it was possibly the best steak we’ve ever eaten! Local beef cooked by a superb chef - what more could you ask for? Friends have also recommended the mussels, the baked Camembert and chocolate fondant with ice cream. Selfishly I don’t want to recommend this place, as for all its visibility, it is a hidden gem what with the food, service and reasonably priced wine (ie you don’t faint at the price per glass!) and I love it the way it is but it deserves recognition and applause. Please don’t change Swan - you are rocking it!

Came for some food, exceptional. Burger was the nicest I've had in a while and the clotted cream parfait was so good! Lovely atmosphere

Wonderful old hotel in beautiful town! Wonderful hotel in beautiful old English town! Parking is a challenge but we were lucky! Staff greeter was exceptionally friendly and helpful. No elevator (lift) so prepare for spiral stairs! Food was absolutely first-class as was the service. Highly recommended 👌

No Sleep, No Support – Disappointing Stay I stayed at The Swan Inn , hoping for a relaxing break. Unfortunately, it turned out to be anything but restful. On the first night, noise from the pub below the hotel continued late into the night, disturbing my sleep. I was hopeful the second night would be quieter — however, it was even worse. A live band played directly beneath my room from 9pm, followed by loud guests leaving well past midnight. It was impossible to get any rest. I raised my concerns with the manager at the time, and followed up in writing on three separate occasions. Despite this, I have received no response at all. The noise issues were bad enough, but the complete lack of accountability or customer service has been truly disappointing. Guests should be made aware that this venue hosts loud entertainment nights and that management may not engage with complaints. I do not recommend this hotel to anyone looking for peace, rest, or basic courtesy.

A very pleasant Sunday lunch in this quaint pub, tucked away in the old town Midhurst. Good sized portion of meat with a selection of vegetables & carrot puree, which looked colourful to the eye. Also a large light Yorkshire pudding. Served by a charming female member of the staff. The meal was finished off with three different desserts, all of which were very tasty. Well worth a visit.
