La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham Phoenix Mesa West

The positive: Staff were all helpful and nice. Location is good. The room was in good shape. Parking lot was fine. The negative: - A three night stay and the internet was down the entire first day so WiFi didn't connect to anything. - Day 3 the elevator nearest the lobby was out of order so had to walk to the far end, and walk the length of the building. - The breakfast area looks like they took a typical lobby and added tables and serving stations in order to be competitive. Day 1 there was hot food, yogurt, muffins and bagels. Days 2 and 3, no yogurt or muffins. The waffle machine worked 2 of the 3 days. I might be wrong; but, no tea in the lobby or in my room. - Used the gazebo to make phone calls and the railing on the steps was super rickety and not safe.

My wife and I stayed here years ago while visiting friends and really liked it, but the place has gone so far downhill since then. This trip was solo to a car event and I was meeting an old friend in the area. I was open trailering a car to the event and found someone had messed with the tie down straps on the trailer overnight. Nothing was taken, but all straps were removed from my car. When I asked the front desk if they could review their cameras, they told me they have no security cameras on the exterior of the property except at the reception area. This doesn't surprise me, as the back door out to the parking area where my truck/trailer was parked never locked day or night. Then while standing outside in the gravel areas surrounding the parking area fixing the straps, my feet were quickly covered in biting red ants. The rooms are still fairly nice, comfortable and clean, I'll give them that, but the lack of security will keep me from returning in the future.

Very cleanly and the staff was very nice and kind to all of us. We all wanted to thank them for the hospitality and hope to see them all again

On this trip my sister and I requested a room for people with disabilities. Unlike our stay the previous March, we weren't entirely happy with the experience. While the standard amenities were still top-notch, the provisions for handicapped adults were not. Even though our room and parking were close to a hotel entrance, they weren't convenient to the lobby (the breakfast room) or the ice machine. Further, the outer door had to be pulled open and held, so it wouldn't have worked for a solo traveller with a walker or wheelchair. But the greatest inconvenience was the bathroom. There was NO COUNTER SPACE for toiletries and makeup, just a small, narrow shelf above the sink. Also lacking were hooks to hang clothing on. To the good, there were plenty of grab-bars in the tub/shower and the tub floor was textured for a better grip. I think that this La Quinta is still a good value, but I won't be requesting a room for a disabled person again due to the downsides described here.

We checked in very late, and despite it being midnight the check in staff were very nice and helpful.
