Spark by Hilton Phoenix East Mesa

We just arrived home from a soccer trip to Arizona. I woke my son up this morning at 6am - He got up and I turned the light on next to his bed and on his pillow was a bed bug. I shrieked and my husband came over and squished it. My husband then went down to the front desk and told the man at the desk, and then 30 min later, the woman at the front desk what we had found. They did not believe him, and in fact, there was a vague attempt to insinuate he was trying to con them to get a free room. SO he came back upstairs and grabbed the bloody white towel he used to kill the bug,and remains of the smashed bed bug and brought them downstairs. They still did not believe it had come from our room and said their manager would call us today. We never heard from the manager. We paid for the room and are completely disgusted. I have approximately 9 bites on my ankle and have just spent the past several hours washing and drying on high heat all of our belongings. luggage is bagged and outside. The overall cleanliness of the hotel is sub par and I would never stay here again. Paper thin walls. Could hear EVERYTHING. Oh, and the gal at the desk said "well, we have had bed bugs in the past...."

Stayed three nights to visit family having health issues so was gone during the daytime and returned at night. Initially saw the furniture was scratched, scuffed, water and wiping stains…quite worn. The mattress cover would not stay on the bed and had to wrestle with that each night. Last day there waiting for plane I opened up the curtains…and wished I hadn’t. That’s when I saw the accumulation of dust balls and bits of trash under the headboard area, obviously not vacuumed for a long time. Under the platforms of the bed was trash, candy, and stuff that didn’t belong there had it been vacuumed. Behind the corner chair, the lamp wouldn’t come on, I looked behind the chair and saw it was unplugged and lying in dust and trash, so I let it be. Also noticed the mattress was stained as the mattress cover had come off… again. Manager was informed and inspected it with cleaning supervisor and said…” they must have missed that”. The tub was also not clean looking and needed caulked in the corners. On the positive side, staff was friendly, breakfasts were great, shuttle drivers fantastic, great location….just dropped the ball on room cleanliness. Corporate was notified and as of two weeks later no one has reached out to say they received the complaint or to even to say sorry. Had I taken the time to look around and opened the curtains during daylight, I may have seen this sooner and probably gone elsewhere. I don’t want anything other than an acknowledgement from someone that a complaint was received and that they will strive to do better in the future.

Stayed in April for a few days. Somewhat out in the open yet close to the traffic. Breakfast is free, simple yet decent. Rooms are livable, beds somewhat hard, but again somewhat soft. Not the best hotel in Arizona, but clearly not the worst.

At first glance the hotel looks very nice on the outside and the lobby is nicely decorated. We checked in late (around 8:00 pm) and the person working at the desk seemed upset that we disturbed her from her math homework. The room was very disappointing, however, it did have some nice aspects - the ceilings were tall, the tub was large, and it had a microwave. The following are the reasons I’m giving this hotel only 3 stars - the room was dimly lit and most of the bulbs were glaring florescent bulbs, the towels were small and scratchy, the furniture was cheap and sparse, and the bathroom was very small. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Really! Free Dinner! Not very elegant but a nice touch if you arrive and just want to chill in the Bar or Room. Sloppy Joe's that night. A short drive from Appleby's etc. Includes a complimentary beer or wine, too. Great rates that night, A free shuttle to airport. I will be back!
