The Hotel Sherlock Holmes is located just a few meters from the valley station of the gondola and about 500 meters from Meiringen train station. Since we arrived by train, we were kindly picked up by the hotel bus. The hotel itself appears well-maintained and clean. The hotel staff are very friendly and helped us with all our needs. The room was tidy and equipped with the essentials. The wellness area (sauna and pool) is fine. What we didn't like was the food. In the evening, the salad buffet was uncooled. Since we arrived a little late for dinner, this was already noticeable, and some dishes seemed stale. Ice would have helped here. However, the ice was probably needed for the soup, which was somewhere between lukewarm and cold. In addition, the soup contained meat, and despite the indication that it was vegetarian, the soup was served. The main course and dessert were satisfactory. Breakfast was also lacking refrigeration, and the coffee could be better.

A moldy bathroom, a toilet that could have been a prop from a horror movie, and staff that barely spoke German are just a few examples of why you shouldn't stay here. It's a shame this hotel has been so run down.

Great location. Very friendly and nice staff. Rooms were neat and clean. Food was also really good. Overall great experience and will definitely recommend everyone.

Positive: Good location (near the valley station), size of the room, WiFi and TV worked. Negative: Nearly no german speaking, not so clean, very old building. Breakfast buffet: Miserable for the price of Fr. 54.00 for 2 adults and 1 child (14 years). For this price you can expect something different. Orange- and multivitamin juice very watery and without pulp (probably from the tetra pack). Meat/cheese buffet: the same types every day (ham, meatloaf, salami, cheese slices, brie, cu-cumber and tomato slices). Quality of the ham: Cheapest variety (pizza ham) from the vacuum pack. Salami and cheese are also the cheapest products from the supermarket. Salami may have been in the fridge for several days. Fruit salad is a finished product from a can (not fresh); possibly also in the refrigerator for several days. Complaints communicated in writing; was ignored and not answered. Conclusion: Never again (there are enough hotels in Meiringen that are rated much better and are not more expensive).

+ The location is good and the beds were comfortable. - The bathroom had mold, and the pillowcases were stained. BUT the worst of all was the dinner we booked! If you value your life, don't bother. Half of it went back uneaten. Frozen food, extremely poor quality, and at a hefty price. Our criticism was completely ignored. In fact, we were accused of lying. It doesn't make it any better that they spoke absolutely no German and only broken English. If I could, I'd give them negative stars!

Wonderful room
This hotel was a gem. It was quiet, comfortable, and convenient. The staff were all friendly and helpful. Our room had a view of the Reichenbach Falls, which were lit up at night. The bed was a little hard for me but right for my wife…matter of preference. The breakfast was free and quite filling—boiled eggs, assorted breads, jams, cold cuts, cheese, juices, and coffees. It was about 6 minute walk to the train station and a multitude of restaurants. If we come back to Meiringen, this is where we are staying!
