Sue made us very welcome, the accommodation was extremely comfortable and immaculate. The setting is fantastic overlooking Matlock in valley below. It’s a very steep hill to get up but well worth the effort. The breakfast was delicious and made to order cooked by Sue’s husband (a great breakfast cook). Matlock is about a 5 min drive back down the hill. Would definitely recommend it to anyone staying the area and would return if we are ever up in Derbyshire again.

I don’t usually write reviews, but my stay at The Gables was so good I felt it deserved one. Sue and her husband went out of their way to make everything enjoyable. The level of care and genuine friendliness they showed is rare to find. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend The Gables to anyone visiting this part of England — you simply won’t find better hosts.

Lovely B&B
Lovely B&B. Clean, spacious and quiet. Breakfast was really good.
Close to Matlock by foot. However, it’s quite on a hill. So not so practical for people with mobility issues.

Very friendly and professional owners. We couldn’t have asked for anything more. Highly recommend. Lovely clean room, tasty breakfast and as long as you love hills and beautiful scenery, this is the place to stay.

Perfect B&B with lovely owners
The owners were lovely, welcoming and had thought of absolutely everything guests might need during their stay…nothing was too much trouble. Room was quiet, clean and loved the fridge given the hot weather. Location is 20minute walk into both Matlock and Cromford. But location is very hilly for both walking and driving with no local shops.

Me & partner have just returned from this stunning place. John & sue couldn’t do enough for us. Breakfast was absolutely fantastic, great choice from fresh fruit platters, cereal to a cooked English breakfast . We stayed in the derwent suite & it was absolutely amazing. Stunning clean, fresh water & milk daily in the fridge. We couldn’t recommend the gables enough & we are already thinking of booking to come back here again. Thank you
