Dune Barr House - Verandah in the Forest

Serene. Peaceful. Misty days. Cool nights. Warm hospitality. Delicious and simple spread at breakfast. Great variety of food in the ala carte menu. The staff took care of all of our requirements quite efficiently. Loved chatting with Rekha (the manager’s wife) and my child couldn’t get enough of playing with their children! Oh, and the 200 year old property in itself is worth mentioning. It is well maintained keeping in mind the original theme. We will definitely go back for a longer stay- preferably when Rekha and the boys will be there!!

The view from the stylish heritage Verandah and the whole atmosphere in the house are wonderful. The food linked to the region and the history of the house was a delight. Also the staff so friendly and helpful. Especially the fact that internet is not available in the rooms and dining area made it a true holiday trip and break out from daily routine. Also Langurs, Makaks , birds and probably much more wildlife close to the house will definitely make us return and recommend it to our friends.

Traveling from Mumbai involved a lengthy journey by train, cab, and a nearly 7 km trek from Dasturi Point to Dune Barr House - Verandah In The Forest a heritage hotel property . Throughout our stay, the host managers Ratheesh and Rekha, ensured our absolute comfort. Although I fell slightly ill upon arrival, they took excellent care of me. This place is perfect for those who enjoy peaceful seclusion, with limited mobile network or WiFi in the rooms. However, there is a designated area where WiFi is available with guidance from Ratheesh and Rekha. The food, offered by the chef couple with Ratheesh's guidance , was exceptional. Rekha (Ratheesh’s wife) also is an excellent cook as she prepared Kerala delicacies such as Avial and appam which are my all time favourites. The rooms are well maintained by the staff and the management- from lighting to decor to the Verandah. Additionally, their son, Rigveda, entertained us with his inquisitive nature and made our stay even more enjoyable. RR - you guys rock !!! I would love to visit this place once again.

It’s a real heritage resort. If you’re looking for something to be away from gadgets, artificial lavish resorts, ACs, Wi-Fi’s, room services this is the best choice.It’s with natural beauty bath I can say. Minimum 3 days required to enjoy this serene beauty with Good host like Ritesh and family who helped all the way since the booking, Approx cost to reach to the resort. Food is excellent even ice creams were made by them with creamy ingredients. Ritesh helped to get all the taxis and return journey in a peaceful way. The grandeur dining hall experience and verandas breakfast and snacks walkable lake. Foggy veranda while having food is an awesome and mind blowing experience for us.

We had a fantastic time as always at Verandah. Great Hospitality and Good Food. Special Thanks to Mr Ratheesh who took great care of us. Everything was taken care of including our transport. Highly recommend this place for anyone who is looking for a peaceful get away and solitude.

The rooms are unclean and poorly maintained. They charge 5-star hotel prices under the guise of heritage, but the rooms are substandard. The walls are visibly dusty as if they haven't been cleaned for years, poorly painted, with cobwebs on the bed and cracked, damp walls. Wi-Fi is unavailable in the rooms, and there is no mobile network coverage.

An excellent secluded place for soul searching and family bonding. Amazing property which has not lost its essence of the Colonial Architecture. Food was so homely and amazing The hospitality of the management staff is out of this world. From the moment we did our booking they were with us, asking for our updates and helping us till we reached the property and also till our departure the next day. Ratheesh and Rekha thank you so much for all the hospitality and support extended. Really loved both of you

Dunn Barr is a heritage property and it’s maintained well that way - from the lighting, to room decor, the dining room, the verandah. I would recommend the Heritage Deluxe rooms as they are on the verandah facing the “forest”. The Heritage superior are on the floor below. These are very good as well but doesn’t have the charm of the verandah room when sitting outside. The food is also very good with very decent selection of vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes. It’s also a short walk to some of the key view points such as Charlotte lake, king George point and Echo point. The staff, headed by Mr. Ratheesh, gives excellent support. Do keep in mind there is no WiFi or mobile signal in the rooms but quite fast WiFi in one specific area. There is also no room service. This is not an issue as all rooms are within a minute of the lobby where help is at hand. This is the place to be if you want to cut-off. Past sunset, it can be very charming or quite spooky. I loved it. 😄👌
