Property Description
This mountain hide-away is truly magical. Explore our six forested and private acres, in the Sierra National Forest. Black Bear Lodge and Bunkhouse Cottage is uniquely situated between two Yosemite entrances. We are 35 miles to the Arch Rock Entrance (access to Yosemite Valley, Yosemite Village, Half Dome, El Capitán and Tunnel View). And, we are 35 miles to the South Gate (access to Wawona, the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias, Bass Lake and the Sugar Pine Railroad). Both drives are absolutely gorgeous and take approximately one hour.
Enjoy our brand new hot tub underneath the stars after a day of exploring the nearby National Park. Our outdoor amenities also include a propane BBQ, picnic tables, hammocks and fire pit (weather permitting). For our equestrian travelers, your horses will be as pampered and comfortable as you are in our four stall barn (some with automatic water), turn out pasture, round pen and tack room.
Our area also abounds in hiking opportunities (some within walking distance of our home). A dozen or so trailheads are within about ten miles of the property. Of course, some of the most spectacular trails are also within easy driving distance within the National Park. Our all season home has natural attractions year round. In the summer, the mountain ambience can't be beat with warm days and cool nights. In the fall, the trees in our area are nothing short of gorgeous, and the most picturesque pumpkins patch imaginable is just down the road, featuring a large pond, farm, picnic area, rustic games, and a beautiful setting that's hard to capture in words. In the winter, the property becomes a snowy wonderland. The wood burning stove is so cozy and charming as you enjoy the falling snow through our two story, gabled windows. And, in the spring, the creeks and rivers are full, and surrounding alpine meadows and mountainsides explode with poppies, lupines, dog woods and other mountain wildflowers. Whichever season you choose to visit Black Bear Lodge, you will be immersed in nature's beauty.
In our home, we include a house binder, chock full of helpful information for you. Included is current Yosemite information, details about the house, local restaurants (including our suggestions and favorites), local markets, etc. Also included is our curated list of local experiences ranging from white water rafting, to a local spa day, to four wheeling, to winter activities and many things in between. We also have a list of the ten best hikes in Yosemite.
For larger parties, or for guests who would like the option of separate spaces, our charming and luxurious Bunkhouse Cottage is available to reserve (contact us for details) adding extra living space. Amenities include Keurig, flat screen tv and wood burning stove. This space is perfect for in-laws, friends, extended family, or anyone who'd like their own space while still close to the rest of the group. Contact owners to arrange. Fee applies.
For guests traveling with horses, our barn may be reserved. Four stalls with stall mats, water and feeders are available, along with tack room, round pen and fenced paddock. Contact owners to reserve either space.About pets:Pets allowed: dogs (limit 2 total). There is a one-time non-refúndanle $75 pet fee..About checkOut:Check out before 11:00 AM.About children:Children allowed: ages 0-17.About customRules:Animals are not allowed on furniture. Our stay was lovely and enjoyable. Communication with the hosts was immediate and clear, with info just what was needed. That being said, the 4 star reflects a few shortcomings. I had to sweep the deck and clean the outside furniture to use- at least a pushbroom should be provided. But the hot tub under the tall trees and stars was wonderful!Cobwebs should have been removed. Showerhead and all faucets should not be loose, especially in the bath used by children. The kitchen is delightful; More flatware, sugar for coffee and adequate cocoa powder needed. Still, glad we found this place.

Better than advertised
If you are someone that is very busy and doesn’t have time for continual follow up and have high expectations, this place is for you. This place is everything I was looking for and more. It was better than advertised and I had every single thing I needed. The hosts are superb and probably the best I have ever dealt with. I will be coming back if they will have me.

Stay at Yosemite
Overall, we had a wonderful time there. The description of the property was as we expected and travel time to groceries and to Yosemite National Park was as described. We had a comfortable stay and enjoyed the time spent with family, especially in the hot tub.

Fantastic getaway
Very Cozy and quiet place to stay outside of Yosemite National Park. Well stocked kitchen and very pet friendly.
Nighttime star gazing in the hot tub is highly recommended. Would stay here again!

Mariposa Memories
The property was well kept and had all the amenities our family needed. We cooked all meals at the house and enjoyed the fully stocked kitchen. In the evenings we enjoyed the hot tub and gas fire pit.
We wanted to be somewhat close to Yosemite and Bass Lake. We also lucked out and was able to enjoy the Mariposa fair one day.
The house felt private and it was also very quiet all day long. We enjoyed hiking nearby and one evening walked the Best Road loop right from the house.

Cozy Cabin Review
The property was wonderful, we enjoyed our stay. My only suggestion would be to get new sheets/pillow cases & pillows for all bedrooms and have some extra blankets handy.

Visiting YOSEMITE
3 night stay with first time visit for my son and his girlfriend to Yosemite. Beautiful place very relaxing with great amenities except for long drives into park.
The owners were very polite and timely with any questions.
