The hotel is very close to the University of Kansas, has a large parking lot, and the swimming pool and surf pool are very good and relaxing. The room was clean and tidy.

This is a very old hotel, I recall it as a Holidome back when I was in college. Doubletree is clearly in the process of updating it, but they have a good way to go. The room had been recently updated but still has the very old layout with a tiny and inconvenient bathroom. The shower door did not close all the way, so the floor was soaking wet after every use. The bed was the typically comfortable DT bed, but the room was so hot at night that I was never able to get a good night sleep. I attempted to ask for Maintenace to look at the AC, but they never did or never had any luck. The bar / restaurant is basically non-existent, which is too bad. I recall it being a fairly fun sports bar with decent bar food over the years.
It's in a great location, and they are trying, but they have a long way to go in order to be able to compete well with all of the newer hotels in downtown Manhattan.
