Cabot is an intimate luxury experience. It surpasses other luxury lodges because the owners Breidi and Brad Alexander take personal care of you. Their chef has Michelin-star experience which is evident at dinner and breakfast. You can can mingle at pre-dinner canapes with up to eight other guests, but choose to dine independently if you prefer. The Lodge is on a 2000 acre farm, on which you are free to roam around within sensible limits. There is a small lake, and a hilltop with wide views around Manapouri. My wife and I have stayed at Cabot Lodge four times, and we leave feeling pampered yet not overwhelmed by obsequious staff. It is luxury and relaxation at its finest.

Just back from a wonderful 6 days in New Zealand to celebrate my wife's 50th. We spent our last night at Cabot Lodge and I'm not sure my writing will do justice to how wonderful the experience was. From the first of Breidi's messages it was obvious that the stay would be everything the glowing reviews said it would be. From the moment you drive in the gate, you can tell how special this place is. Photos will never do it justice as the views in every direction are jaw dropping as you climb up to the lodge. Just be careful you don't run off the road trying to take it all in. Breidi's welcome was warm and informative. The room was just beautiful and the view out over the farm from the window was very pretty. There is a sense of calm about the place which means you can't do anything other than just slow down and enjoy the experience. From the canapes in the lounge, to the fantastic meal curated by an obviously very talented chef, and then retiring to the perfectly prepared room, everything was superb. After a chat about the farm with Brad in the morning over breakfast, we spent an hour walking around the farm in the morning which was beautiful. I highly recommend this place and my wife and I are trying to work out when we can go back again.

I first saw this magnificent lodge on a listing when researching last May prior to our trip to New Zealand towards the end of January this year. It showed the lodge from behind up the hill looking across Lake Manapouri to the snow-capped mountains beyond. It took my breath away, such was its impact that I resolved that we MUST incorporate a stay into our South Island travel plan ...and we did! We've arrived early afternoon to be greeted by the joint owner, Breidi, and escorted to our beautiful suites with a patio looking onto that view I'd seen online. After explaining how everything worked, answering any questions we had, Breidi left us some newly baked cookies, and I went for an introductory walk round this working sheep farm. Stunning! The prices charged include aperitifs, dinner, and a wonderful full breakfast incorporating home grown vegeatbles, lamb, beef, etc, and the best Stewart Island salmon. All the food was cooked expertly and beautifully presented by Chef Rod. The waiting staff were so friendly, knowledgeable and welcoming as was Breidi's husband Brad who was there to welcome us for aperitifs and gave us three history of the farm started by the parents who have "retired" but live on a house just down from the Lodge. So many sheep graze in the fields but also cattle and deer to make it sustainable given it costs more to shear a sheep than farmers get for the fleece nowadays! We've stayed two nights relaxing and being indulged totally by the owners and staff. Nothing was too much trouble. I'd heard about the "Bookshop at the end of the world" run by Ruth Shaw but thought we wouldn't manage a visit given we were on the 10am Doubtful Sound Cruise but Breidi said to get there by 09:15 and indeed Ruth, alerted by Breidi, had opened early to show us around and allow us to buy some books for our granddaughters in Singapore, whom wed see on a brief transfer at Changi on the way back. What an inspiration Ruth is and an amazing life - really pleasure to meet her. Manapouri is a delightful small village where everyone knows and helps each other which a joy to experience. I really can't talk highly enough about this little piece of paradise on earth. Suffice to say it's probably the "best" place we've ever been for peace and quiet, subdued luxury, great local food, and professional but unassuming service. The scenery is out of this world, and you don't need to be doing anything at all to enjoy the lodge and its surroundings. Just enjoy the sounds of silence (and the odd sheep noise!!) My last night, I relaxed late into the evening on our patio, sustained by Central Otago full-bodied Pinot Noir gazing out towards these gorgeous mountains as the sun dipped behind them and vowed to return one day. If there's a better place, I've yet to see it! Breidi, Brad, and all staff, thank you so much for your hospitality and extending such a warm welcome to us that went far and beyond our already high expectations.

Staying at the Cabot Lodge was a highlight of our South Island experience. The setting overlooking Lake Manapouri is simply stunning. The hosts, Breidi and Brad, are very warm and informative. And the chef is extraordinary. We will recommend to all our friends.

Our 2 night stay at Cabot Lodge was amazing. The first thing that takes your breath away is the beauty of the scenery and surrounding area. Then you have the lodge itself, which is decorated in such high standards at the top of the hill. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, with beautiful views to look out on. Those views are there to explore. Next, you are greeted and accommodated by a sensational team. Who cares about their work, the comfort of their customers, and delivered with a friendly smile on their faces. Breidi, Brad, Craig, Hannah & Nina & of course the sensational chef. These people went above & beyond to make your stay exceptional. We participated in the bee keeping experience, which was very interesting. We were given a delicious packed lunch for our hike on the Kepler trek. The hot tub was warmed up on request. Drinks and canapés were served in a comfortable lounge prior to evening meals. The chef is very talented, having worked in & with Michelin star restaurants. Oh, I could go on & on! Thank you for a fabulous time!

This was our second visit to Cabot Lodge, and it just keeps getting better and better. Its quiet location is perfect with spectacular views across Manapouri farmland and across Lake Manapouri. Brad and Breidi are great hosts and are very knowledgeable about the history of the local area (a must view is the Deer wars video) and they organised some great excursions for us. The food and wine selection was five star and as good as, if not better than any other lodge we have visited in New Zealand. Cabot Lodge is the best value lodge we have stayed at in New Zealand and we will be definitely back next year. Thank you for a truly relaxing stay. Leo & Raewyn O'Sullivan

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Cabot Lodge! Breidi and Brad, the owners, are fantastic hosts who went above and beyond to make our experience unforgettable. They were incredibly gracious, even helping us fix a flat tire, which was such a kind and unexpected gesture. The accommodations were comfortable and cozy, providing a perfect place to relax. The farm itself is stunning, and I highly recommend taking a farm tour—it’s a great way to experience the beauty of the property. The food was phenomenal, and Breidi and Brad even went out of their way to accommodate an unusual dinner request, which we truly appreciated. Their warmth and hospitality made us feel right at home. If you’re looking for a place with exceptional service, breathtaking surroundings, and delicious food, Cabot Lodge is the perfect choice! We can’t wait to return.
