Location: perfect. In the old town, 5 mins walk to all major sites, including Roman theatre, cathedral and Alcazaba. 10 mins to seafront. Hotel: quirky decor, delightful, built on ruins of Roman palace. Glass floor in breakfast room with urns and original foundations visible below. Room: Spotlessly clean. Marble tiled ensuite bathroom. V comfortable king size bed. Efficient aircon. Quiet. Breakfast: Excellent quality, rapidly cooked to order, artistically presented, by cheery Madagascan server. All orange juice freshly squeezed. Good choice, including fresh fruits, pancakes, muesli, Greek yogurt, eggs etc. Restaurant: We were eating out each day, so not tried, but hotel has an Iranian and an Italian restaurant. (Owner is Iranian - with fascinating life story, do chat to him! ) Staff: friendly, helpful and scrupulously honest. They returned the €20 note I didn’t even realise I had dropped the day before at breakfast. Caveats: just one. If you are elderly or have limited mobility, don’t book a room on the top floor. They have a slippery wood spiral stair inside the suites to the bedroom on a mezzanine, and the handrail stops four steps before the twist at the top. Plus the shower is over the bath with a high side and no grab handle. I
